The Whitby Murders
The Whitby Murders | J. R. Ellis
5 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
A murder with three witnesses. But one of them doesn't believe what she saw... Halloween, Whitby. DCI Jim Oldroyd's daughter Louise is in town with friends for a goth festival. But their visit to an escape room ends in bloody murder when one of the group stabs his girlfriend and flees the scene. It's a crime with three witnesses--but Louise refuses to take what she saw at face value. Oldroyd and DS Carter are called in to solve the case, assisted from the sidelines by Louise. But the closer they investigate, the more complex the web of deceit appears. This is no straightforward crime of passion. With a violent murderer on the loose, it's only a matter of time before they strike again. And this time it's personal. Oldroyd must expose the truth, protect his daughter and stop the horror before it's too late.

Pickpick

This mystery was set in Whitby at Halloween, so I saved it for Halloween weekend, which was perfect. It started a little slowly, but I got my covid booster Friday, so it may have been a lack of focus on my part. But the story picked up, I felt better, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable read. This series isn‘t a cosy exactly, but it does have a gentleness about it that I love. My final #Bookspin October read and it resulted in a bingo!

Book 2 finished for #NutsInMay Readathon.

A short book at 284 pages bit enjoyed this so much that a finished this between early afternoon and midnight on the same day. I really enjoy these books. Good stories, good characters and easy reading that moves along at pace. Almost a form of a locked room mystery. Intriguingly written and plotted out. Now to wait for the next one.

Starting reading the ARC of The Whitby Murders, book 6 in the Detective Chief Inspector Oldroyd series, where the books are all set in rural North Yorkshire. Read all but one of these and really enjoyed this series and the characters in the books, as well as the plotting and murders in the books.

Reading as parts of #NutsinMay
