Everybody Fights
Everybody Fights: So Why Not Get Better at It? | Kim Holderness, Penn Holderness
10 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
My wife drives me crazy sometimes. My husband should already know what I need. Is our marriage in trouble if we fight all the time? Is it possible to learn how to fight? For the last several years, Penn and Kim Holderness have done the hard maintenance and the research. With the help of their marriage coach Dr. Christopher Edmonston, they break down their biggest (and in some cases, funniest) fights. How did a question about chicken wings turn into a bra fight (no, not a bar fight; a bra fight)? How did a roll of toilet paper lead to tears, resentment, and a stint in the guest bedroom? With their trademark sense of humor and complete vulnerability, Penn and Kim share their ten most common Fight Fails and how to combat them. Throughout the book, they offer scripts for how to start, continue, and wrap up hard conversations. Couples will emerge equipped to engage and understand, not do battleand maybe laugh a little more along the way. In Everybody Fights, couples will learn how to conjure the magic of metacommunication break free of secret contracts banish the three Dsdistraction, denial, and delay carry their own individual baggage while helping each other deal with theirs Penn and Kim metacommunication want people to know theyre not alone. Marriage is messy. Marriage is work. But marriage is worth it. Fight for it.

#12Booksof2022 @Andrew65
This was an interesting audio listen. You kind of have to follow their social media to understand some of it, but over all it was a great book.

Andrew65 Sounds interesting. 2y

Mehso-so

I will preface to say that I'm not exactly fans of their internet channels, though my spouse is. She listened to the book, and then I took my stab at it. While they are engaging and do their best to keep the listener entertained, the book winds up feeling disjointed and seems to distort or even more dangerously sugar coats the worst times. The advice is mostly universally applicable and I find some to be quite helpful. Overall a 3.5/5.

#Bookspin @thearomaofbooks
My first Bookspin of the year complete. I have ready plenty of other books, I promise.
This one I picked up because I love watching their videos and found an audio recording to listen to on my trip to IL and back this weekend. It was just as entertaining as their social media videos.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 3y

This was really cute! I always love seeing their videos whenever I‘m browsing around on Facebook and they always put a smile on my face. Kim and Penn are really relatable as a couple and I really enjoy the way that they present things. They make a lot of good points and really brought up a lot of things that I hadn‘t thought of before. Definitely worthwhile to read this one!! Audio is probably best for this book, though!!

I‘m definitely the target audience for this book. My husband & I aren‘t dealing w/major issues, but we frequently fight about small stuff that feels big. They‘re real issues that can cause major problems, but they‘re not insurmountable. The Holderness family is the same. I loved the couple‘s honesty, vulnerability & humor, especially in the audio version. They tackle communication styles & rules for how to fight. I found it helpful & entertaining.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a relationship book, but I wanted to support these fine, hilarious folks after following them on social media ➡️ “The Holderness Family.” Their clever videos have been a bright spot during COVID. Self-help is not usually my jam, but I really enjoyed and learned from this, jotting mental notes as I listened. Kim and Penn are super funny and lovable, too, so that added to the experience.

Aims42 I just discovered their videos a few weeks and they are hilarious! 😂 Thanks for sharing their book, wil have to check it out 👍🏻 4y

🎧👟⛅️ Evening #audiowalk. The air is thick, y‘all.

Enjoying the tagged book so far. I love Kim and Penn, and “The Holderness Family” on social media (funny videos and song parodies), so I though I‘d give their new book a go.

MicheleinPhilly Oh my gosh, I‘ve been so miserable with the weather all week. Like walking through soup. 😣 4y
britt_brooke @MicheleinPhilly The humidity has been so oppressive. And is it gonna rain or not? Mother Nature needs to get her shit together. (edited) 4y

MicheleinPhilly YES! Bright sunshine and then the sky opens and dumps 2 inches of rain in 30 minutes. Make up your mind, BITCH! It is supposed to be 68 degrees here tomorrow and I am GIDDY. #IHateSummer 4y
britt_brooke @MicheleinPhilly ?? Rain all day here tomorrow (allegedly!) then 90° - and stuffy as hell - on Saturday. I love/hate Tennessee. 4y
