A young, orphaned shapeshifter in a world that fears magic must risk everything if she hopes to save her only friend in Elayne Audrey Becker's Forestborn, first in a new fantasy series with a timeless feel. TO BE BORN OF THE FOREST IS A GIFT AND A CURSE. Rora is a shifter, as magical as all those born in the wildernessand as feared. She uses her abilities to spy for the king, traveling under different guises and listening for signs of trouble. When a magical illness surfaces across the kingdom, Rora uncovers a devastating truth: Finley, the young prince and her best friend, has caught it, too. His only hope is stardust, the rarest of magical elements, found deep in the wilderness where Rora grew upand to which she swore never to return. But for her only friend, Rora will face her past and brave the dark, magical wood, journeying with her brother and the obstinate, older prince who insists on coming. Together, they must survive sentient forests and creatures unknown, battling an ever-changing landscape while escaping human pursuers who want them dead. With illness gripping the kingdom and war on the horizon, Finleys is not the only life that hangs in the balance. #BookReport is actually pretty solid this week. I finished the Archives of the Invisible Sword trilogy as well as Nora Roberts's latest work. However, I struggled with the tagged book for some reason - it just didn't engage me, and it took me almost as long to read that one book as it had taken me to read the other three! Consequently, I decided not to read the sequel (Wildbound), but I did skim it to find out what happens 😂 Currently reading ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Happy Place, which I am hoping to finish today. Tomorrow's windowsill has July books - I realize it's the 1st already, but I'm still not ready!! 😆

After a slow start, I am finally getting into the tagged book. Hoping to finish this one and read the sequel, plus at least one more book during this #20in4 . Although four books would make sense 😂 The weekend is looking pretty busy with family shenanigans, though, so we will see how it goes!! Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 !!

Andrew65 Hope you have a great Readathon, good luck 😁 1y

This was a really fun fantasy adventure. It has magic and a quest and danger and a villain. Those are the elements you need for this type of book, so I'm giving it a 👍.

Occasionally dense, this young adult fantasy still managed to hold my attention with its intriguing world building & magic system, & characters who challenged & learned from each other. A strange sickness is killing people. When the prince, & her only friend, falls ill with the sickness Rora, a shapeshifter, undertakes a perilous journey to find answers—this in spite of never being accepted by the people who now need her help. Entertaining.
