I appreciate what it did, but I can see why it didn't make it into the next novel/novella in the Murderbot series. It's more a connecting moment, set up for events that are addressed/unfold in Network Effect. I'll never turn down sweet moments between Mensah and Murderbot, though!

This was really too short, should have just been shoved at the end or beginning of one of the others. But it was good for what it is and was interesting to get a different perspective

Extremely productive reading week, last week. Hoping to finish Network Effect this week.

Doesn't add much to the world-building and nothing we already don't know, but the human perspective was refreshing.

Wonderful short story from Ayda‘s point of view as she battles the resulting emotional trauma from her near-death experience. It also lets us see how she is struggling to figure out what her relationship is to SecUnit. This brief story is sort of brilliant as it circles all the varied concepts this series confronts—slavery, freedom, self determination, capitalism, identity, etc.

Interesting short story from Dr. Mensah's point of view as she recovers from the events of Exit Strategy. I liked seeing her thoughts and perspective of Murderbot and how they both are dealing with the trauma they've been through.

Going forward with this series, I seem to remember people saying it's better to read Fugitive Telemetry (6) and then Network Effect (5) for chronological sense. Can any fellow Murderbot enthusiasts confirm?

5/5⭐ I'm so glad I read this while home alone because I could not stop from either laughing out loud or repeating “oh my fucking god“ throughout the entire story. Dr. Mensah and Murderbot are my new favorite book relationship and individual characters.

Book 4.5, short story in the Murderbot Diaries series that follows Exit Strategy, focused more on Dr. Mensah & the (emotional) aftermath of the previous books.

I really enjoyed getting to read a story from Ayda's perspective. Seeing her friendship with Murderbot--and its protectiveness and sense of humor--from her point of view was a delight. I'm honestly sad it was only a short story and didn't go on for longer. Definitely a great read for any Murderbot fans out there!

This is a short story that takes place after book 1 in the Murderbot series. I'm not sure how it would be as a stand alone, but as a huge Murderbot fan I enjoyed it. I think the humor would be missed if you don't know the backstory. It is $1.99 on Amazon.

Told from Dr. Mensah‘s point of view, we get to see just how much she is affected by being kidnapped by GrayCris and her complicated feelings for Murderbot.

I love the StoryGraph stats! I like that I can separate out my yearly goals between pages read and overall books finished, since I go through audiobooks pretty quick when I‘m at work. And it looks like I had a pretty great reading year 🥰
Next year I think I‘d actually like to read less, and do more savoring, but I‘m still impressed at the number of pages i devoured this time around!

A super short story that mostly follows the mental health effects of events from Exit Strategy on one particular character and, of course, the ways in which Murderbot helps. I adore Murderbot and am excited to read Network Effect soon.

This was a great short short story, where characters deal with the aftermath of the original four novellas. I wish it was even longer. It‘s available free online. 😉

This is a story from Mensah‘s perspective after the events of Exit Strategy. It was interesting to see Murderbot from someone else‘s point of view, but it was only a very short story that was originally provided with preorders of Network Effect. It‘s currently available on the Tor website.
