Patrimony: A True Story | Philip Roth
5 posts | 4 read | 6 to read
Patrimony, a true story, touches the emotions as strongly as anything Philip Roth has ever written. Roth watches as his eight-six-year-old fatherfamous for his vigor, his charm, and his repertoire of Newark recollectionsbattles with the brain tumor that will kill him. The son, full of love, anxiety, and dread, accompanies his father through each fearful stage of his final ordeal, and, as he does so, discloses the survivalist tenacity that has distinguished his fathers long, stubborn engagement with life. Philip Roth is hailed by many as the reigning king of American fiction. Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, this memoir about love, survival and memory is one of his most intimate books, but also one of his most intellectually vigorous. Patrimony is Roths elegy to his father, written with piercing observation and wit at the height of his literary prowess.

#bookreport

This week looks more successful than it was. Three of my five books finished I actually completed last Saturday (and Time Out was only 1.5 hours on audio.) The work week is kicking my butt—I haven‘t worked full time in years. I‘m having fun though and when I do get the chance to read, I really enjoy it.

Cinfhen I‘m in awe of any reading while working full time and having littles at home 🙌🏻💕🥳 4y
Cinfhen How are you finding this book... 4y
Reviewsbylola I‘m really enjoying it but it‘s different! @Cinfhen 4y
Bookzombie I can‘t imagine how hard it would be to adjust to working a full-time job after a break. I mean outside of the home. You were already working full-time at home. 🙂 4y

Nice reading month and my favorite is Patrimony - powerful, honest and sad story about Roth's father.

Simona @shawnmooney I'm trying to write more legible, but I'm not always successful at this task 🤷‍♀️ 7y

The story is a wonderful monument-an intimate story about a man who revives memories, and who is facing with his own mortality. The story as a story is emotional and painful to read, honesty of narrative is sometimes shocking, but Roth with his narrative style managed to portray Herman Roth as a man,who was fighter with dignity and determination, and especially, as a humble man with a good heart despite his mistakes.
Also, perfect fit for #itsmylife

Cinfhen Beautiful review 💕💕 8y

My first Roth. An amazing novel about a father, his sons, and his disease.
