A stunning, simply told story of great compassion and insight, from the author of the Stella Prize-shortlisted An Isolated Incident.

Pickpick

Lena's budding romance has turned into a nightmare and she discovers her beloved aunt, in hospital after a fall, is a hoarder. Then her long absent brother reappears. The story is told in the POV of these 3 superbly drawn characters. The simple style of the writing is deceptive, there is a lot of depth to the observations of family dynamics, class, economic inequality, misogyny and social media. I liked it a lot. #ozfiction

Maguire writes fearlessly about life‘s messiness, without letting it consumer or overwhelm the reader. I was particularly taken with Maguire‘s treatment of class and perception; it‘s a theme that purposefully permeates every strand of this story. Love Objects is a frank and highly-readable novel about family, fear, and confrontation. Extended review: https://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/new-releases/
