I‘ve unleashed the Kindle Unlimited monster inside of me. This is the first book out of about 65 I plan on reading within 3 months. Surprisingly it‘s not on Litsy yet. It‘s the latest in the DI Ruth Hunter series. Love it!

First book in a series but not convinced I‘ll carry on. The murder mystery was good although the twist at the end felt predictable and not well teased. The main characters also seemed a bit obvious. The lead Ruth is a smoker and we are told about it. A lot. Her deputy is more interesting but again his alcoholism is bluntly written and a bit one dimensional the setting is beautiful but again a bit too tell and not show.
I liked this book. The mystery was interesting and twisty, the story was atmospheric and melancholy, the characters were relatable, and the writing was a nice balance between description and action.
OTOH, as someone else mentioned, there‘s a lot of focus on one character‘s alcoholism and another character‘s smoking habit. Also, this could have used one more pass through by a copy editor and in addition had some odd typesetting.
I requested this #mystery through ILL on September 1, and it‘s just now made it to my county. It‘ll probably take a few more days to get to my home library branch. #ominousoctober

A very enjoyable beginning to a hopefully excellent series! Great characters, nice banter, fabulous surroundings, and a peculiar story. Downside is that it was a bit too fixated on alcoholism and needing to smoke at all times, but hopefully those things will be sorted out in the next books.
Finished one more book before the new year. 😊 I‘m sold on this series. Two flawed detectives work together to solve a couple of murders. A couple of little annoyances but I don‘t feel like it ruined the book. Bought the second! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I loved this book #ChristmasBuddyReadathon. Some great characters, with great plot lines and good fun trying to work out what was going on. Unusual but I actually guessed the killer from not much more than halfway into the book, but not the full reasoning for it. A great style of writing that makes it easy reading, and plenty of questions to answer in the future books in the series. Just one blot for me, Ruth continually smoking, not needed IMHO.
Not feeling great today so I‘m cuddled up, starting #20in4, and getting time in with Ruth and Nick this morning. 🤒

This was a very good start to a series. The author is a good writer and I love 💕 the complex-flawed characters of Ruth and Nick. The premise of the murders was interesting and I didn‘t guess the murderer. The only criticism is that there were too many twists in the end which seemed to make the book drag a bit. I will move on to the 2nd book as I want to see what happens next.
Have started the first book in the DI Ruth Hunter Series by Simon McCleave.
These are set in Rural North Wales after Ruth relocates to North Wales from London. Someone has just murdered a Deputy Head! 😳
