Gone (Media Tie-In)
Gone (Media Tie-In) | Chelsea Cain
Now a TV series starring Leven Rambin, Chris Noth, and Danny Pino, premiering on February 27th on WGN America! From the critically acclaimed author of the Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell series, an "utterly exhilarating and emotionally rich" thriller that will have "your heart in your throat" (Megan Abbott, bestselling author of Dare Me). Twenty-one-year-old Kick Lannigan is a survivor. She can pick any lock, fire any weapon, throw any knife, and aim a punch at her opponent's trachea. And when the enigmatic John Bishop shows up asking her to help him rescue missing kids, Kick has every reason to be wary. He appears to have access to limitless money, high-level contacts, and details of Kick's background long kept sealed by the court. Yet everything he tells her about himself seems to be a lie. Headstrong by nature, suspicious by circumstance, and a smart-ass by self-determination, Kick can't help but see the writing on the wall: together, she and Bishop could make an unstoppable team, willing to do whatever it takes to see justice served...if they don't kill each other first. For Kick, whose interest in child abduction is deeply personal, it's a gamble worth taking. Critically acclaimed as "excruciating...compelling" (Booklist, starred review) and "propulsive" (People), Gone is a high-octane and hard-hitting thriller you won't be able to put down. *Originally published as One Kick (Simon & Schuster, 2014)

Touching on a subject as a mother I usually avoid in books, but it was well handled. I can see this team working together in the future. A young woman, a survivor of human trafficking herself, sets out to find a young boy who disappeared. Lots of action and craziness.

I have been wanting to read this book for quite a while and even more when I discovered it was being turned into a TV show. I have been recording the show so I can watch it when I finished the book and I‘m so ready! This book was really good, however very heartbreaking at times!

I LOVED this book and was so disappointed when the sequel was never going to be published because the author switched publishers, but now One Kick is going to be a limited series on WGN America called Gone. I still wish the sequel would be released!

The writing was great, the plot ok. The main male protagonist is a sadistic jerk. Ick.

This was one of my favorites this year and I was BEYOND disappointed to learn no others would be published 😭 I‘m still partially in denial and I may have cried in frustration a little bit. #GIVEAWAYFAVORITES

Nuwanda I was SO SAD when the sequel got nixed. I loved the Gretchen Lowell series and wanted another! 7y

A #thriller involving child pornography, kidnapping, disastrous relationships, and the disturbing things humans can do to one another. In spite of all that, you have a kick-ass heroine that takes center stage. There's even some occasional dry wit. Listened to this one on audio and I suspect I would have enjoyed it more in print as the narrator's voice was a bit monotone. Otherwise, an entertaining ride!

This is frustrating news 😑😑😑 anyone else read One Kick? It's good, definitely could have some triggers though. Kick is a survivor. Abducted as a child and forced into child pornography now she is grown and trying to find a missing child. Crazy twists and turns, a little gory, a lot sad. I had really mixed feelings while reading - not as to whether I liked the book but it just really throws your heart all over.

Just finished the audio for this one. Whew boy. This book pretty much combined all my no-no's - child physical/sexual abuse and dog harm. Even with those nausea-inducing bits, the main character was a survivor who totally kicks ass and was really easy to root for.

Chelsea Cain does a magnificent job at creating damaged characters. This book is a bit difficult to read, at times, as it focuses on child kidnapping and sexual abuse. Kit Lannigan, though, is a very strong character. She has sass, knows how to protect herself, and is not afraid to kick people where it'll most hurt. Written in Cain's smart, yet at times, sarcastic voice, I truly enjoyed it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now when does Kick Back come out??

A unique and wounded main character. A kick-ass side-kick. While gently handled in the book, pedophilia is always a topic tough to read. I will continue to read this series.
