To save a fae kingdom, a trans witch must face his traumatic past and the royal fianc he left behind. This debut YA fantasy will leave you spellbound. Wyatt would give anything to forget where he came from--but a kingdom demands its king. In Asalin, fae rule and witches like Wyatt Croft...don't. Wyatt's betrothal to his best friend, fae prince Emyr North, was supposed to change that. But when Wyatt lost control of his magic one devastating night, he fled to the human world. Now a coldly distant Emyr has hunted him down. Despite transgender Wyatt's newfound identity and troubling past, Emyr has no intention of dissolving their engagement. In fact, he claims they must marry now or risk losing the throne. Jaded, Wyatt strikes a deal with the enemy, hoping to escape Asalin forever. But as he gets to know Emyr, Wyatt realizes the boy he once loved may still exist. And as the witches face worsening conditions, he must decide once and for all what's more important--his people or his freedom.

Wyatt is a trans witch, who ran away from his Fae prince fiancé, Emyr, after an accident with his magic. Emyr‘s throne is at risk bc of an ambitious& traditional minded cousin, he tracks down Wyatt & brings him back. Wyatt has to decide what he‘s willing to fight for. Some parts of this fantasy world was forced & didn‘t work for me but overall I liked it. Won‘t be buying book 2 in the library but I‘ll get it from the library to see how it wraps up

I started this for the #TransRightsReadathon and finished last week. I really loved entering this fae world filled with magic and political intrigue. Wyatt and Emyr are such a complicated couple yet truly strive to understand each other better after they are reunited. The issue of bigotry (whether towards race, gender, or magical beings) was handled in such a realistic and powerful way. Definitely looking forward to finishing this duology soon!

I was so incredibly close to bailing on this. The few chapters of this book left me in a mix of wanting to read but feeling like everyone word was dragging me through molasses. In the end though, I stuck through it and after about 100 pages, the plot made it worth while. 5⭐️

peanutnine I had trouble getting into this at first too but also loved it in the end 😊 2y

I‘m participating in the #TransRightsReadathon from March 20-27 and am currently putting together ambitious reading possibility piles. I hope you will join me. In the meantime, I would love if you‘d consider donations to Brave Space Alliance in Chicago. Or, as a Hoosier by birth watching anti-trans legislation proposed in Indiana, I would also appreciate donations to organizations benefitting trans Hoosiers. https://bravespacealliance.org/donate/

Pride Month: Day Ten! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

This duology features a trans witch who escapes the world of the Fae where he was raised, to try and forge his own path. When his Fae fiance (who just happens to be a prince!) tracks him down he has to decide just how he wants to live his life. The first book in this duology really blew me away. So much so that I am really excited to read the second book! 📚💕

Mehso-so

I felt more so-so on this book but have no doubt the target audience will treasure it (teens, especially LGBTQ teens & who love magic & excitable queer culture ). I liked the fantasy setting, the characters, & the #LGBTQ rep. Several things about this book didn't work for me because they felt too forced to be an organic element. My top complaint was how forced the Facebook/cellphone stuff felt. It seemed like a cool concept that wasn't ready yet.

I wanted to love this book. There was so much representation here: a trans man, various couples, bodies of all shapes and sizes described as beautiful. But the story was so-so. It isn't terrible, but it isn't great either. With that said, I enjoyed listening to the audio book and will give book two a try.

Loved this one!
Wyatt is a witch who has escaped the fae, including the fae prince he was supposed to marry. Discovering himself in the human world as also meant the realization he is trans. When Wyatt‘s pulled back to the fae to fulfill his destiny he must confront his past, and the boy he fell in love with.
