A gripping expose of a notorious cold case 1978. An idyllic beachside community. A series of abductions and rapes. So what happened to Trudie Adams? The disappearance of 18-year-old Trudie Adams while hitchhiking home on Sydney's northern beaches in 1978 left her family and community devastated. When police began to investigate, the dark underbelly of the so-called 'insular peninsula' was exposed, where surfers ran drugs home from Bali, teenagers hitchhiked everywhere due to the lack of public transport, gangs of men prowled the beaches and the roads, and predators abducted and raped countless young women, crimes rarely reported or investigated. Inspired by the award-winning #1 podcast and ABC TV series and containing new revelations never previously revealed, Barrenjoey Road is the gripping expose of why the case was never solved. It takes us all the way to the top, from a criminal perpetrator with a lifelong record and links to organised crime who was never formally accused, to police corruption at the highest level.

Bk19 of 2021 is done! A true crime about the disappearance of 18yr old Trudie Adams from the Northern Beaches of Sydney in 1978,it was hugely upsetting but very well written & researched. The fact that neither her body or her killer has ever been found is a massive indictment of the police, especially considering the numerous other rapes & abductions in the surrounding years. #Booked2021 #ContainsPhotos #NonFiction2021 #AboutThePast #BookspinBingo👇

Riveted_Reader_Melissa It sounds very good, I usually can‘t read the true life crime books...but this one sounds good. 4y

Lizpixie @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Cinfhen @TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage I highly recommend it. There‘s also the podcast by the authors called Unravel & the 3 part documentary which is on abc iview(though it‘s an Australian site it may work with a VPN like Surfshark or similar) 4y

Heading into the home stretch of the #24in48 #readathon & I just may squeeze in the 24hrs! Woohoo🙌 So far this book is both interesting, sad, infuriating & surprising. I knew sexual assault on women was seriously underreported & under investigated in the 70s, but the way these women & girls(some were barely teens)were dismissed & blamed by the police is just shocking. And crimes against women still has one of the lowest convictions rates.😡

It‘s 3am here & I‘m not quite ready for bed yet, so for a change of pace in the #24in48 #readathon I‘m starting this true crime NF about the disappearance of Trudie Adams from the Northern Beaches of Sydney in 1978. Her body has never been found & police have never charged anybody with the crime. I vaguely remember the case, I was 7yrs old at the time so the news wasn‘t a priority. I‘ve heard the podcast is excellent👍
