My husband is watching the kids all day and night so I can have a day to edit my finished book project, but I need a quick break from the screen. Masked up and listening to the tagged book on audio. Loving it so far. A young woman takes a job in the early 80s at a Playboy Resort in WI.

Christine You sent me hurtling to Google to find out if there really was a Playboy resort in Wisconsin…grew up there but did not know this!! (In fairness, this is very much the type of thing I would have been deliberately sheltered from as a kid - but still!) (edited) 3y

rachelm @christine @kimmypete1 I had noooo idea either and also a Midwesterner born and raised. Loving this book so far though. Totally hits on WI resort culture and the 80s and oof, just want to listen to it and not work. The sign of a good book! 3y

Set mainly in the early 1980s, orphaned narrator Sherri Taylor re-invents herself after her childhood in East Troy, WI at the Playboy Resort in nearby Lake Geneva. Both a coming of age and a sexual awakening, this book has sex, drugs & some violence- along with some famous cameos. Sherri may not always be likable but she feels completely real! A great summer read & discussion starter!

This was such a fun read. Sherri entered the story, lost, not knowing what to turn to. She quickly grows into a strong confident woman that you get to follow for the next 40 years. I really enjoyed this story a lot. This is a perfect beach read for anybody looking for a little glamour.

robinb acceptance by re-inventing herself. This was at times painful reading, frustrating as I wanted to shake Sherri but also hug her and advise/save her. She is surrounded by a diverse cast of characters...friends, users, lovers, exploiters. We follow her self-discovery path from her hometown all the way to California, 🔻 3y

robinb and I actually found some relief from being submerged in her troubles and some needed clarity (plus surprises) in the last 20% of the book. Exhausting but good. 4.25/5⭐️ 3y
