7 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
The world continues to change. Each passing day twists it further, and pushes the surviving humans closer to the brink of extinction. But, for the first time, there is hope. Clare and Dorran set their sights back on Winterbourne Hall. It's a daunting journey, but vital. Humanity needs more refuges--safe areas where food can be grown without attracting the attention of the hollow ones. Winterbourne promises to provide that. But their home is no longer a sanctuary...it has become a trap. By the time they realize just how dangerous it is, the door has slammed closed behind them. Their fight for survival is far from over.

“YOUR TIME TO SHINE, map reader. Where you?”

Not the most exciting first line. I‘m halfway through this fourth and final entry to the Black Winter series. So far it is much better than the third book, during which I considered bailing. Clare is not nearly as annoying and insufferable as she was in book 3, and Doran has pretty much kept his mouth shut.
I keep hoping Beth will show up again.

MaleficentBookDragon But seriously, book 4 and you‘re “married”, and all you‘ve done is kiss and cuddle? Yeah, right.. 🙄 8mo

I had put this one aside when my Haven‘s Rock hold came in. Now I‘m back to it, switching from physical book to audiobook when I want to #crochet

MaleficentBookDragon ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 for this one. This series is another one by Armstrong where I want more of the side characters than the main ones. But that is almost always the case with me. 8mo

I‘m still with this series even though I did not like book 3. #completist
I‘m also still working on this sweater so I‘m bouncing between the #paperback and the #audiobook

I read this on much later than the other three last year and it took me much longer to read as well.
I'm so sad to give this a soso but it's the truth. I feel like it's way too long for the information that you're given so it really drags. I found myself skimming. It does conclude the series nicely, it just felt forced. I would still recommend the series as a whole, even the last book isn't as great as the others.

Book 21 for October themed reads. Book 4 and the final book in the black winter series. I have to be honest I wasn‘t in love with the ending. Yeah, which is disappointing as I was totally sucked into each novel. Maybe the series went too long? I don‘t know but it felt like we took a left turn and shifted gears. But I was drawn into the series so this book gets an overall pick if it had been a single title not so much.

Love this series. I feel sad that it's over. It's not perfect but I enjoyed all the adventures and challenges Clare and Dorran endured. The series consisted of different elements including mystery, thriller, suspense, romance (clean), melancholy, humor, action, and drama. And compared to other apocalyptic stories, I was grateful that Darcy Coates included a solution with a hopeful note in the end.

Super suspenseful ending to this series. The last few chapters were cringey though. I‘m not sure why but Clare just started grating on my nerves.

MaleficentBookDragon I‘m on book 4 now. I almost bailed on book 3 because I really started to dislike Clare. I actually loved Beth in 3. I think a novella from Beth‘s perspective would have been wonderful. 11mo
