Absolutely loved this, as I loved There's Going to be Trouble. Jen Silverman gets me.

A searing portrait of a borderline unlikable character, Cass. On the precipice of big success as a queer feminist playwright in NYC, she has to flee across the country in the wake of a scandal. The book is about women and rage, ambition, making art, desire, jealousy, friendship (+ lack thereof). Also: bisexuality, queer friend/mentorship, self sabotage, internalized homophobia, failure, intimacy, theatre. Amazing characterization, amazing ending.

This book has been getting buzz in my theatre circles and I remembered I have a Penguin Random House Reader Reward. This doesn‘t count as breaking my “no new books until indie bookstore day” clearly because it was free. I don‘t make the rules (I do make the rules in this case 😂)

I really enjoyed this story of Cassie, an up-and-coming queer feminist playwright, who flees to LA after a scandal of her own making. As she attempts to start over, she becomes entangled with a morally questionable filmmaker and her current project. The writing and character development are great, and the novel discusses art, sexuality, ambition, success and failure in some really interesting ways. Can‘t wait to read more from this author.....

After an incident in New York that expelled her from the theatre world, Cass is ready to reset in LA. She‘s given an opportunity to be someone else, Cath, while working with a neighbour on a “feminist Fight Club for girls.” While living as her new gentler self, she discovers the layered lives we all present. Really great stuff.

Mixed feelings about this one. Some wonderful scenes and some awesome weird set ups, plot wise. But, overall it just didn‘t really come together for me. #ARC #netgalley

So rarely do I get to read something where a character and I have the same name. Just starting this one.
