The Miracle on Ebenezer Street | Catherine Doyle
4 posts | 2 read | 6 to read
An enchanting and exciting tale of Christmas magic from multi-award-winning and bestselling writer Catherine Doyle. 'Sparkles with magic . . . A wintry wonder of a book' Abi Elphinstone 'Old Marley's magic was beginning to stir...' George is about to spend his third Christmas without his mum. Since she died, George's life has felt dull and grey; his dad has thrown himself into his work and has no time for family, and definitely no time for Christmas. Then, George stumbles across Marley's Curiosity Shop. There he finds a mysterious snow globe, which - though George can't quite understand how - appears to show a scene from George's past. A Christmas in which he and his family were together, and happy... That night, George and his dad are swept on an adventure to three Christmases - past, present, and future. With help from new friends, and just a touch of magic, can they begin living life in full colour again? A stunning modern reimagining of Charles Dickens' beloved classic, A Christmas Carol. This really was an enchanting tale full of Christmas magic. George stumbles upon a magical curiosity shop one Christmas and finds out the impossible can become possible. Can the joy of Christmas be brought back home after losing his mum?
This book had it all - great characters, traditions, excitement and somewhat poignant too.
The author Catherine Doyle really makes you feel you want to wrap up on the sofa with a hot chocolate whilst reading this

Wonderful re-telling of A Christmas Carol! It‘s a really sweet story and the characters are well rounded and you want to help George change his father‘s heart so much. Plus the wee nods to Dickens original are great fun.

Have you already read ‘The Miracle on Ebenezer Street‘? I‘ve heard so many good things so I recently caved in and ordered it. It‘s said to be a magically new take on ‘A Christmas Carol‘ so I‘m intrigued.

Do you revisit A Christmas Carol in whatever form during the holidays? Do you prefer the classic tale in book form, the Patrick Stewart film, or the Muppets movie version? Or any other adaptation?

Palimpsest @scripturient I try read to the original story every year. I usually watch a few versions which alternate year to year, but I love the 1970 Scrooge and A Muppets Christmas Carol. I own a few more including the Scott version, Stewart, Reginald Owen, and Disney. I didn‘t care for the Pierce version or the one directed by Figgis. I love this story so much! ❤️ I try to buy one new film adaption every year. I know I sound crazy. 4y
Palimpsest Oh and I have The Man Who Invented Christmas. I‘ll probably buy the Sim version this year! 🎄 4y
Avanders I do try to revisit The Christmas Carol everything year... in any form ☺️🎄♥️ 4y
Daisey I watch the Muppet version every year, and in the last few years I‘ve started reading or listening to a version of the original each year as well. 4y
Laughterhp I watch the muppet version every year! And do try to listen to the book on audio every year. 4y
