I devoured this in a day. I absolutely cried my eyes out 😭
I wasn't keen on the timeline initially, but around halfway through, it flows.

Two women give birth in the millennium, one is a healthy baby, and one is stillborn. The twists in this are heartbreaking, scary, and at times beautiful.

Been sat crying for 20 mins and no sign of stopping any time soon!

There was too many plot holes in this for me to really enjoy it. The timeline didn't make sense, the crime was too glossed over to ever feel real and the conclusion was eye rolling.

I also have an issue with people crying 'soft tears', what does this even mean?

I'm not sure if this was meant to come across as humorous or maybe its satire, French is a comedian as all, but either way it didn't work for me.

I was unsure of this one for most of the book. Couldn‘t quite get to grips with her writing style. I‘m all for comedy in books but some points it felt out of place and unnecessary. That ending however caught me off guard so have to give credit for that..

A hospital, the night two very different women give birth to two very similar daughters.
Hope leaves with a beautiful baby girl. Anna leaves with empty arms. Seventeen years later the truth of that night comes rolling out.

This was such a bittersweet read. Touching upon such a sensitive topic in such a delicate way, Dawn French had me hooked from the very first chapter!

#womensprizelonglist2021 not a book I would have picked up otherwise. I don't know where to start here. Highly readable, I flew through this but it was messed up. Will say pick as long as you read it with someone so you can call them with "??" every 50 pgs.
The storyline is dark and could have been an emotional rollercoaster but she throws in humor and it doesn't match, maybe I don't understand her humor though because it wasn't LOL but WTF.

While I am almost done with this book, and still cannot figure out my feelings on it, at least I know I am coming out of it with this great quote.

"Truly, I've met some pricks in my time, but you, sir, are the full cactus."

Have you ever read a highly readable book, but the storyline and content is...WTF???
I am breezing through this but am a bit horrified at it. It starts with 2 women giving birth one baby dies and that mother steals the other's baby... But French apparently is trying to add humor? With things like a character named Detective Cheese? The back is completely confusing. Why am I reading this, and why am I flying through it??

Unpopular opinion here: I LOVED this book. I loved spending time with Anna and Min and Hope and Debbie and Isaac. #womensprize @LeeRHarry @squirrelbrain @thewallflower0707

A really odd concept. Without giving any plotlines away, as the blurb doesn‘t even hint, there‘s a couple of very disturbing events at the start, then the rest of the book is bizarrely humorous but also incredibly unbelievable. There‘s a massive twist at the end that I really didn‘t see, but that also would *never* happen in that way IRL.

I may have enjoyed it more if I hadn‘t been trying to figure out how it made the #longlist - sorry Dawn!

Almost bailed but instead did a speed read. A gift so I felt I had to give it a go. Is this what they call chic lit? I‘m not sure. If it is not my thing.
