I got to chapter 6 and just couldn‘t anymore. I like the female narrator but find the story seriously lacking and couldn‘t focus. And the male narrator was too much for me. Normally I enjoy when a narrator changes their voice per character, but he seemed to really exaggerate them. It was like he was performing caricatures of the characters. He‘d be great for children‘s stories, but I found it a tad annoying.
My next listen… until I can get my next Audible credit to purchase the 3rd of the Dr. Greta Helsing novels 😁
#TBRPile 📚 “Elsie hadn‘t meant to burn down the workhouse. She hadn‘t mentioned it to the constable when he‘d come around to question her and the other children. She hadn‘t said anything at all.”
I really enjoyed this one this week. A lovely blend of magic, drama and romance. Elsie was a great main character, feisty and brave. Looking forward to hearing more about her in the next one. :)
Thoroughly enjoyed this light, historical-fantasy romp through England for my first stab at #bookspin. The characters were kind, compassionate and a little snarky. Aka, just about perfect ❤️
This knocks my #doublespin pick off my list!

This was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me. I can‘t pinpoint why it didn‘t rate higher for me. There were dragging moments and although the writing was good it wasn‘t page turning. This had great potential and the characters were interesting but that‘s about the extent of it for me.
I loved the Numina series that Holmberg wrote and so far this is off to a promising start. 😍
I loved this!! Reminiscent of her Paper Magician series, which I absolutely adored. Can‘t wait to see where this series (duology?) is headed! March cannot come fast enough.
About 3 stars on this one for me. The writing was good, and I enjoyed the world and characters, but I found it dry and slogging. That‘s just my opinion, however, nothing wrong with the writing. I just was never excited to pick it up and just wanted to finish it.
This was surprisingly good. I got this book from Kindle Unlimited as I have a free trial. I did not have high expectations, but was pleasantly surprised.
Set in a world with spellmakers and spellbreakers. Set in the late 1800s. This was a delightful and easy quick read. I could mostly see where the story was heading, but I still enjoyed the journey.
My two Amazon first picks for the month: a gothic novel set in a boarding house on the turbulent shores of Lake Superior and a historical fiction described as weaving together mystery, romance, sorcery, and petticoats.
Yay! There was a book on my to-read list that is free this month with the Amazon First Reads program. One clicking for sure! 🎉
