This is my top read for February.
From a debut author, it‘s a story about family…its messiness and how one is shaped by it. Lots of emotions and SO beautifully written.
@Gissy once more you have sent me an incredible gift❤️❤️❤️ I love everything. I will do a seperate post for the print. This picnic theme was perfect in every way. Now if only yours would arrive 😢. #sliceofsummerswap
I listened to the audiobook of this one. The minute Xe Sands started talking I deflated. She‘s one of my least favorite narrators. I know this is the unpopular opinion, but I thought this book was incredibly boring. I did a lot of fast forwarding towards the end...I just wanted it to be over.
The descriptive language in this book was so captivating. Terry's ability to set a scene by precisely choosing each word is undeniable. However, I can understand how some people find this type of language to be too much.
Lila finds herself forced to return home to Georgia after her sister calls to inform her their mother has died. Her quest for answers leads to more questions & asks how foundation & family influence identity. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Stellar debut!

Why would Geneva be out in the muscadine grove with a spoon in her hand when they found her. What even possessed her to go there in the night?
Geneva‘s three grown children were puzzled about why.
If you grew up in the South or have visited Scotland, you will love this entertaining book that has life-changing, heartbreaking secrets revealed after many years. 5/5

This debut family novel is simply wonderful and has me happily anticipating further books from this author. I won‘t say a lot about the plot as I don‘t want to get into spoiler territory, but it is about family, its messiness and how we are shaped by it. It has some surprise twists, some heartrending moments and much to say about time/place/period and how those relate to one‘s sense of self and finding one‘s true home. Anger, loss, humor, and 🔻
