A sumptuous New Year's Eve party in the mid 20th century is seen through the eyes of a mature cynical woman and a young girl at her first ball. It took me a bit to get into the style of this one, but once I did I loved its wit and bite. Thanks Leah😘

Thank you so much Leah. Such a beautiful looking book and I think it might be the kind of thing I‘m wanting to read at the moment. I‘m afraid I couldn‘t find the energy to send out Christmas cards this year, but I am wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas 🎅🤶🎄💕
I read this introspective little novella about a New Year‘s Eve ball last year around this time, and I‘m not sure most people would take to it, but I just loved it! Today‘s prompt #Party reminded me that I‘ve been meaning to get myself a copy of this and add some more of her catalog to my TBR. So yay for #DivineDecember @Eggs and @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 🙌
The Snow Ball is a little gem of a novel. Written in ‘63 and set in the early 20th century at a New Year‘s Eve masked ball with an 18th century costume theme. This story is all beautiful detail and description. There‘s very little plot to speak of, so it wouldn‘t appeal to everyone, but I found it really easy to get lost in, and I enjoyed the poetic language and witty dialogue. 👇🏼
A masquerade ball in a London mansion on NYE in the 1960s. Sumptuous costumes, peppermint creams, sparkling chandeliers, & bodies in close proximity. Anna K alone & despairing; young Ruth scribbling in her journal in quiet corners. Sensual & with a biting wit, its dark heart glittering, Brophy's prose is highly stylised & might not be to everyone's taste, but I found the novel perfect: clever, wicked, original. "Sex, death, & Mozart" sums it up ?
