I would not use this book in my classroom

I liked the message behind this book. It was all about supporting each other which is important to me

Biography - Published in 2020. Ella Baker worked to lift up others by fighting for racial injustice and empowering poor African Americans to stand up for their rights. Great book.

“What do you hope to accomplish?”

This would be a great book for the older kids, such as third through fifth grade. This would be a great book to use to introduce the civil right movement. It can highlight separate ideas that might not always be talked about in the history books. I think that the images used were really empowering and would be beneficial for children to see.

Published in 2020. Has won many awards. Biography about Ella Baker. Ella Baker was an activist fighting for freedom for black people. Throughout the storyline, it talks about the way she grew up hearing the inequality she was faced to live with. She fought with major known people, like Martin Luther King. She worked from the bottom to the top to find people to support and join her in fighting for freedom.

The book would be a good read when discussing the Civil Rights movement. When teaching about MLK teachers could also read this book to shine light on the people who helped make a change but may not be learned about in history books.

The book tells about the life of Ella Baker. She fought for the rights of African Americans as she gave speeches and helped the people standing with her. The story is told from the 3rd person's point of view and describes each stage of her life. The illustrations add effect to the story and help the reader feel the emotions of Ella Baker.

I can use this book when my class is learning about the Women's Movement or the Black Freedom Movement. Also, when learning about famous people who made an impact in our lives nowadays.

This is a biography since it gives information on a person and follows her throughout her life. Ella Baker worked for the Women's Movement and the Black Freedom Movement. The narrative was fast-moving and it will enrich children's knowledge of famous people like Ella Baker.

I would use this biography with older elementary students to expose them to another prominent, yet not as well known, activist during the civil rights movement. Ella Baker is an inspiring figure for all people, but especially for young women. During the civil rights movement, most well-known activists were men. Her efforts to be seen and heard during her fight for freedom can provide powerful messages and important lessons to young students.

This biography tells the life story of Ella Baker, a Black woman who fought along side MLK against racial inequality for all people of color, especially young, Black women. This biography is told in a fast-paced narrative manner that includes moments from her upbringing, her first experiences fighting for justice, and all of her important efforts and accomplishments throughout her activism journey. Excellent story of a female leader in the Civil Rights Movement.
