After the family's return home from Iran, Darius gets a boyfriend, his dream job as an intern in a tea shop, and a spot on the school's soccer team.

There were times I felt the intricacies of tea connoisseurship and sports were taking over the story, but I still want to know how various relationships were going to develop further at the end. There wasn't really a cliffhanger, it just left me wanting the story to continue.

Reggie Is this the one where he goes and advocates for his little sister against her teacher? 7mo

The first book was better. Not sure why a second was needed. You don‘t need to have read the first to read the second. In this one, Darius is figuring out juggling work, school, family, soccer, friends, and a boyfriend while also trying to figure out what he wants now and that sometimes when we finally get everything we‘ve been wanting it wasn‘t what we thought it would be after all.

I think I liked the first one better, However it was interesting to watch Darius go through growth in different situations this time.

GondorGirl I agree that overall the first book was stronger, but I did really love this sequel. 3y

I loved the first book of this duology and the second was just as good. The author does a great job handling intersectionality and shows a great representation of a young man trying to navigate his depression on top of the other woes of high school.

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Although not as strong as the first book, I still loved this one. Darius is a character that I feel young people can relate to and they can also learn from him.

His little sister Laleh is my favorite. 💚 I loved in this one that she was reading Dune and The Shining. 😁

Even though I preferd the first one (due to all the Persian vibes), still is still a very good, and important book. I hope Darius will help a lot of younger readers dealing with their lifes and problems. Showing them, that they're not alone, that there are ways to solve your problems. That you are strong enough to make it through the day, even though it might be though. I wish there were books like those when I was younger. Darius has to deal ⬇

Jari-chan with so much, I often just wanted to hug him. But I also felt proud of him, seeing how he slowly grows and overcomes his troubles. Go, Darius!

Bookish Song Nr. 29: Hit The Lights

Even though I'm not yet done with the book, I immediately thought of Darius, when this song came up. I thought of his insecurities, his fears, but also how he starts to overcome them, learns about life and how to deal with it.

This YA novel about a teen figuring out his romantic life is...okay. I enjoyed the first book loads more. The Iranian setting really had a hold on me, and I loved learning about the Iranian culture, food, etc. I also really liked Darius's interactions with the family in Iran he had never met, and his friendship with his bestie over there. I loved the tiny scenes in this one where the Iranian characters popped up again via video chat.

Good vibes for a Friday night! Wine with Darius, followed by an autumn soup for dinner and cards with my daughter and her boyfriend. It has been a long week and I‘m looking forward to some downtime this weekend! TGIF Littens

This is the second audiobook I powered through this week. It was a great escape from the real world while doing chores and was just as touching and real as Darius the Great is not Okay. He is a great character that you are rooting for from page one. Highly recommended

Cortg Yay! I have it checked out for the library waiting to be picked up. I just renewed it today! 4y
Reggie I really liked this book and hope there is another one coming. 4y

Book 128 A YA, coming-of-age continuation novel about Darius, a gay, Iranian-American, depressed, tea-loving, soccer-playing teen. A great character, but you wouldn't know it from this book alone. No new plot to speak of and dissatisfying relationships. Definitely read it, if you loved book one.

I really really really hope there are more Darius books. I want to spend more time with him. I love how the author is honest about different topics that teens face and struggle with. I also love have Darius stood firm on what he believed in!

This sequel was great. Khorram has this great ability with Darius to show us what it means to be this teen with a jumble of emotions inside him trying to navigate everyday life. Darius is on the soccer team. He has a new job he might hate. He has a boyfriend. His sister is having a tough time at school. His parents are working overtime to provide for the family. His dad‘s emotionally distant mothers have come to help. It was a lot and Khorram 👇🏼

Reggie wove everything together beautifully and effortlessly. Pick!!! 4y

Oof. My parents both speak Spanish but did not teach it to me or my brother because they told us they were made fun of for speaking Spanish when they were growing up and wanted us to have an easier life.

Trashcanman What country are they from? 4y
Reggie @Trashcanman they were both born here. And both of them, their first language was Spanish. 4y

Reggie @Trashcanman do your kids know Spanish? 4y
Trashcanman The two oldest do (I have 3 kids). My wife is polish. It's hard when you don't have the person to speak it with. 4y

The sequel I didn't know I needed. After coming to terms with her depression, his relationship with his dad, and his "Fractional" Persian heritage in the last book, this book deals with Darius's sexuality, his new boyfriend, & finding his place on the soccer team and at the tea shop he's always wanted to work at. Khorram did it again, perfectly depicting so many difficult to encapsulate feelings & writing another remarkable book.

5 stars / ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
