When in Key West, why not read about Key West?

I enjoy reading survival stories. This was more about the difficulties of building a bridge through the Florida Keys than the 1935 hurricane, I still enjoyed learning. I admit most of the engineering went over my head; I think Standiford did a great job trying to explain the vernacular. Now, I want to read Under a Dark Summer Sky.

"Dreaming up a railroad to Key West is the stuff of another era, and its undertaking is the work of another kind of man."

Learning a little bit more about my crazy home state and getting a lot of inspiration to do big things along the way. What books inspire you?

bookwrm526 We stopped briefly at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach on the way down to Miami for a Marlins game. I wish we'd had more time to explore it. 8y

becausetrains Flagler was nuts for going to Key West, but damn if he didn't make a fortune (and his railroad is still very much alive and kicking, JAX-MIA.) 8y

LitLogophile @bookwrm526 @becausetrains I currently live in Cleveland and have gotten very interested in the extensive local history, I wish I was as interested in learning about my city when I grew up in Tampa Bay! 8y
