Never Cry Wolf | Farley Mowat
Pickpick

This is a humbling and chilling book. I don't know how, but Mowat in the course of this slim volume managed to write an incredibly readable book about government incompetence and savagery, biology, and a single expedition that reveals how humanity has made itself alien from the planet we presume to call home. Many of the conclusions made in this book are going to stay with me for a long time.

Well, that was pretty comical for a "non-fiction" in a good way. Quick, easy read and enlightening though more about the time and Mowat than wolves.
I quite enjoyed and sympathized with the views expressed about academia. Sad isn't it since this was written in '63?

atla I read that he called it “subjective non-fiction” when met with criticism about the .. creativities taken with the narrative. 4y
Andrea4 @atla 😂that oddly sums it up well 4y

So as someone who had a friend who tried to basically hack his sleep and take naps than really sleep and as someone who has had their own sleep issues, pretty sure I can safely say that "wolf naps" are not in fact better for humans.
Lol

llwheeler Quite the break up line 😳 lol 4y
Andrea4 @llwheeler I'll put that in the back pocket in case I ever need a good one-liner. Sad truth is, I'd be more likely the one to evoke such a response 🤣 4y
llwheeler Haha somehow I doubt that 4y

Good reading month...as it turns out my two fave books in April were about dogs/wolves.

5 ⭐️ read for me. Tasked by the Canadian Govt with proving that bloodthirsty wolves were responsible for the decimation of caribou, his time with the wolves proved the polar opposite. Thank goodness his book gained popularity and resulted in an outcry against bounty hunting of these magnificent creatures. His book is filled with (often self-deprecating) humor and respect for wolves and the Inuit.

#nonfiction2019 something with survival. I HATED this book when I had to read it as a freshman in HS, but I decided to give it another go now that I'm a grown up 😂 I actually really enjoyed it! I thought it was funny and interesting - two things I did NOT feel when I was 13.

Loved this book. Criticism that Mowat made this story up I don‘t believe. It‘s impact was powerful and that was very important given the wolf‘s villain status.

A Canadian classic for #junetunz today. I rescued this copy from my parents' basement when I was helping them clear out their house in anticipation of putting it on the market. Can't wait for my boys to be old enough to share this one with them.
