Moray_Reads I usually give things 100 pages but it seems strange (and a bit morbid!) to allow less and less add you get older! 7y

KathyWheeler I need more than 40 pages sometimes to know if I‘m going to like a book. 7y

TheWordJar I think that seems fair. The older you get, the less time you have for garbage, so the sooner you should make your decision! 7y

Purrfectpages I had to think about this for a second. On one hand I agree life is too short to waste time on books I don‘t love. On the other, I think it sometimes takes longer for some books to get going. Of course it then becomes an issue of, well I got this far....Grr! (edited) 7y

Caroline2 Depending on the book I give it around 50 pages, if I‘m not enjoying it by then I bail! I have so many books to read and too many times I have slogged thro books and it‘s rarely worth it!! š¤Ø 7y

Weaponxgirl To me it depends on the type of book. Some books are harder going than others either stylistically or plot wise and they will get a longer trial period to see if I can get into. A book that's meant to be fun gets a couple of chapters and if it ain't working it out. 7y
