From the front flap:Sam & Dave are digging a hole, & they will not stop until they find something spectacular.I think the point of the story is that the journey & friendship is the real treasure. Made me smile 😊 From my library kids bundle.

Such an adorable story and unpredictable ending, I want this in my classroom!
Sam and Dave Dig a Hole by Jon Klassen published in 2014 is such a cute story! I think it would be very interactive and the children would love it because Sam and Dave are so close to finding diamonds so many times.
This book was great (2014). The story itself was cute and short enough to keep the reader intrigued. The story, along with the illustrations also allowed for the reader to laugh along with the story. Overall, really enjoyed the book.
The illustrations were great. I loved how simple they were. The illustrations were simple, but had showed that there was a lot going on within the story.
“We won't stop digging until we find something spectacular.“
“Sam and Dave fell down, down until they landed in the soft dirt. Well said Sam, Well said Dave, that was pretty spectacular! And they went inside for chocolate milk and animal cookies”
This book made me laugh and I thought it was extremely cute! I enjoyed the illustrations and how they took up most of the pages or even multiple pages! It added to the dramatic effect of the writing!
This picture book was extremely hilarious because every time they would get close to finding something super exciting they went the other way! It was almost frustrating for a more mature reader to see! But in the end the dog got what he was digging for!
“Well said Sam. Well said Dave. That was pretty spectacular.”
I was laughing reading this book. I think kids would laugh along as well. It also is cute because even though they went around diamonds in the end of not finding anything they still had a fun time!
“I have a good idea,” said Dave “let‘s split up.” “Really” said Sam. “Just for a little while” said Dave. “It will help our chances.”
If my students were interested in reading this book individually they could. I‘m not sure if I would choose to read this book to my classroom though.
Sam and dave dig a hole by Jon Klassen is a Caldecott winner that was published in 2018. This is a book about to boys named Sam and Dave who one day set out to find something spectacular. They had decided they were going to dig until they had found something and they dug and dug, they came up with different strategies. One was to split up, to dig in a different direction, eventually they fell asleep in the hole. When they woke up they were home.
Simple book for children to read and learn about friendship and sharing.
Picturebook, 2014. Sam and dave are with their dog and start digging a hole in hopes of finding something spectacular. They keep digging and find new ways to dig in hopes of finding something. They share their food and fall asleep, which leads to them falling and landing back on the ground by their house. Pictures move well from page to page, along with the words.
Colors were dull to show the hard work and exhaustion while Sam and Dave worked to dig the hole.
This books builds suspense while waiting to see if they do find anything spectacular. The suspense is also built when you see the big gem in the dirt but they decide to change directions and go right around it. It uses space in a way that illustrations are on one page and the text is on another. Genre: picture book; Published: 2014; Illustrator: Jon Klassen
This is a Caldecott Award winning book that takes readers on an adventure to “find something spectacular”. With unexpected turns on every page, this book keeps readers on their toes until the very end. This story teaches readers that sometimes the journey is just as important as what you find at the end of the road. #UCFLAE3414SP18

After doing my author's study on Jon Klassen, he quickly became one of my favorite authors/illustrators. The images in this F book that he created are breathtaking and the storyline is light hearted, frustrating, and hilarious.
