Women Don't Owe You Pretty
Women Don't Owe You Pretty: The debut book from Florence Given | Florence Given
16 posts | 12 read | 2 reading | 9 to read
**'THE BEAUTY MYTH' FOR THE INSTAGRAM GENERATION** Women Don't Owe You Pretty is the ultimate book for anyone who wants to challenge the out-dated narratives supplied to us by the patriarchy. It will teach you how to protect your energy, tell you that you are the love of your own life, and that today is a wonderful day to dump them. Florence Given is here to remind you that you owe men nothing, least of all pretty. WARNING: CONTAINS EXPLICIT CONTENT (AND A LOAD OF UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTHS).

I'm sure I'm way outside of the age range and life experience this is aimed at. Going to blast through it and probably pass it on to someone I know.

Tone of book just wasn‘t for me. I appreciate the message, but I‘ve read other ( imo better written) books that convey the same message. I gave it about 50-60 pages I think, not sure bc I was reading an e reader copy. #roll100

“Stop settling for crumbs; you deserve the whole damn cake!”
My whole life all I have done is settle settle settle, I accepted that that was what I deserved, and that I couldn‘t be loved or wanted or desired any other way. But that‘s so far from the truth. The boys who spent their days ignoring me to tell me I looked pretty were not worth my time. I‘m done settling. I can tell myself I‘m pretty.

It‘s taken me a long time to get through this book, not at all because of difficulty, but because I was so bored the whole time. I feel like if I were less versed in feminist writing and were just learning about and getting in to modern feminist ideas, this may have been a better read. There was no nuance whatsoever, and it relied heavily on cliches. 3/5⭐️

LoverOfLearning Ugh what a fun cover! 3y

It‘s taken having to read this for work to get me to finish this book and it really wasn‘t for me! Putting to one side currently criticisms of plagiarism this is more self help than feminist. There is a naivety in the writing and the messages are not the slightest but nuanced. Not for me but then I am not the target audience on this.

Somewhere between a pick and a so-so, but mainly because I‘m about 35 years too old for it!
There is a generic introduction to how to fight against patriarchy and why you need to love yourself not the capitalist version of yourself!
Section on how to live with the perceived perfections of (some) social medias was interesting.
Passing onto my daughter who is much more the demographic for some of the advice.

Cathythoughts Good plan , I hope your daughter finds it a good one 👍🏻❤️ 4y
