Class Act | Jerry Craft

The transferring students were wondering why the other students were looking at them a certain type of way. They began questioning why they were there at the school as if they were ready to leave. The tour guide started going on and on about random things to change the subject so the kids don't feel uncomfortable. It is a very uncomfortable atmosphere. I feel like that's what the author was going for.

TheMrsShaw OK, so would this be tone or mood? Partial credit.

“Chocolate is the dog's Kryptonite,“ is what was said in the book. This refers to Superman and his weakness being Kryptonite. The dog's weakness is chocolate.

The book I‘m reading is “Class Act.” The word I‘m using from the book is bro. Figuratively speaking, bro can mean your friend or close friend. Literally speaking, bro means your brother or sibling.

TheMrsShaw Make sure you mention connotation and de notation next time. 3y

Jerry Craft‘s graphic novels are just…fun to read! I like that they don‘t shy away from real problems and even offer things to think about or act on. I loved the Easter eggs and chapter image inspirations!

Yall! Class act was just as good if not better than New Kid was. These graphic novels are just fantastic at really capturing and showing a variety of experiences with the type of humor that makes them bearable

This is a great follow up to New Kid. Filled with good times and all the cringe-worthy micro aggressions one would expect. These two titles should be required reading for humans everywhere especially if you are in education.

A smart, funny graphic novel that picks up where Jerry Craft‘s award-winning New Kid left off: Drew is back at Riverdale Academy, one of only a few Black students. Friendships, social class disparities, romance, shadeism, and the micro aggressions of racism are just some of the issues Drew juggles in 8th grade. #comics #allages #bhm #kidlit

🎶 On the second day of Christmas my love of reading gave to me: the sequel to the winner of the Newbery. 🎶 Craft‘s follow up to New Kid was excellent as well. I‘m looking forward to reading more of his work.

A good sequel to New Kid, Class Act follows Jordan back to Riverdale Academy Day School in his eight grade year. This time, his friend, Drew, takes the spotlight. I think kids and adults alike will find something to enjoy in this well-done book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This follow up to New Kid is a deeper dive into the friendships between Jordan, Drew, and Liam. They address some very sensitive situations while still thriving as middle schoolers. Kids are wise, y‘all. We shouldn‘t forget that. There are some amazing middle grade books out there. Don‘t be afraid to branch out. You might learn something.

MrsMalaprop Thanks will look out for these for my 11yo 👍. 4y
britt_brooke @MrsMalaprop Perfect age for them! 💚 4y

I read this late last night while waiting for election returns. It was a good graphic novel. I wish my ereader had color because I missed it in the illustrations, but I could still appreciate Craft‘s talent. I liked the story about 3 friends and how they perceive each other‘s lives versus how they really are. It felt a tad disjointed but it could have been me. I liked how each chapter referenced a famous graphic novel. #readtiltheendreadathon

megnews I haven‘t finished yet but I love the tie in with other graphic novels too! 4y

What a great follow up graphic novel to Jerry Craft's New Kid. This continues the story of friends Jordan, Drew and Liam through their second year together at RAD Academy. Just as great as New Kid. Definitely should be on everyone's to-read list. Will definitely recommend this book at the library.

This is a great series for middle graders. My 10 year old loves it to. This one is more about Drew than Jordan, and is just as well done. I love the portrayal of friendships and navigating your way in the world.

Thank you @CarolynM for checking up on me. Thanks to all of you too. This crazy time we are living in makes it easy for me to retreat and stop interacting with people and things I love. So... I'm gonna try to post about one lovely, beautiful or funny thing, event or person once a day for the rest of this 17 days of nothing but home-work-home per government rules.
Today's flowers from my weekly run at the grocery store and new book. #goodthing
