I appreciated the super short chapters and its cynical, humorous tone. It‘s a book that would be relatable if you‘ve ever felt lost or unsure about what you want to do with your life. It‘s not exactly plot-driven so it was a bit hard to get into initially but I really enjoyed reading it as I felt it managed to capture that adult, but not quite adult, feeling of being a 20-something. Also, that cover, which so happens to match my crocheted throw
In short, sharp chapters, Loner explores some lofty stuff – what is Art(TM)? What‘s the difference between being lonely and being alone? How should we navigate “growing up”? But Young uses a light touch, examining the anxieties and complexities of contemporary youth in a way that feels realistic and grounded. I really liked the cover of this book. That's why I requested it on Netgalley. Lona is sort of lost after dropping out of art school. She gets the worst job ever. She gets a boyfriend. Nothing really happens. But that's kind of the point. I liked the main character a lot. I'm giving it a pick.

I received an #ARC from the publisher via #netgalley.
It didn't get any better. Lona is just too dull and her wallowing in doubt is mostly self-indulgent. She doesn't care about anyone so her insistence that the others in her life should put in all the effort is infuriating. Nothing happens. There is zero character development. Lona simply can't be bothered so I wouldn't advise you to. Not even on the same planet as Sally Rooney's infuriating but brilliant characters.
Urgh. This is one of those books with an MC who thinks her life is imperfect because life is unfair rather than the fact that she has a bad attitude, sticks to nothing and is dismissive of everything and everyone but herself. I'm ⅓ through and struggling.
