Once a Princess

Just a quick question to kick things off- feel free to answer even if you're not joining #Swoonathon with me and @kimmypete1.

So I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I read a lot of teen romances- remember the Sweet Dreams series? But I vividly remember my first real adult romance. I had seen Once a Princess by Johanna Lindsay at the Supermarket Checkout, and fell in love with the cover but didn't dare buy it ⬇

MidnightBookGirl - then my first day of 9th grade, I saw it on a classmate's desk (another Kim) and asked to borrow it- kicking off a friendship and a deep dive into Lindsay's romances (a lot of which are super problematic and rapey, but that didn't bother teen Kate). I will never forget Stefan- he was a scarred Prince, sexy and brooding and in need of love. Swoon!

MeganAnn I don‘t remember the specific title, but I do remember sneaking a Danielle Steel novel off my mom‘s shelves in junior high. Mom caught me and then gave me several Phyllis Whitney and Victoria Holt books to read instead which I devoured. I also discovered V.C. Andrews at the library around the same time and I remember talking about them with my friend on the school bus. So I sort of jumped in with both feet and I‘ve loved romance ever since! 3y

StayCurious I read this book which has three Christmas romances and fell in love with the genre. I remember my mom coming in my room and asking “there‘s no kissing scenes in those books are there?” Um…no mom, of course not! 😜

MoonWitch94 I found it in my Aunt‘s childhood bedroom at my Grandparents‘ house when I was 13. Talk about an eye-opening read! 😂🤣

Forever...

Reggie I think mine was Heartbeat by Danielle Steele where the woman is pregnant. Her husband doesn‘t want kids so he leaves her. And then she is at a lake where she jumps in to save a drowning boy and starts to see their dad . But just when she realizes she has feelings for the dad, the husband comes back after months of being gone. Who does she choose?!!!! Lol, the first romance that destroyed me was the Notebook. 3y
