Yuki chan in Brontë Country
Yuki chan in Brontë Country | Mick Jackson
2 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
'They both stop and stare for a moment. Yuki feels she's spent about half her adult life thinking about snow, but when it starts, even now, it always arresting, bewildering. Each snowflake skating along some invisible plane. Always circuitous, as if looking for the best place to land...' Yukiko tragically lost her mother ten years ago. After visiting her sister in London, she goes on the run, and heads for Haworth, West Yorkshire, the last place her mother visited before her death. Against a cold, winter, Yorkshire landscape, Yuki has to tackle the mystery of her mother's death, her burgeoning friendship with a local girl, the allure of the Brontes and her own sister's wrath. Both a pilgrimage and an investigation into family secrets, Yuki's journey is the one she always knew she'd have to make, and one of the most charming and haunting in recent fiction.

#Bookmail. Because who in their right mind only buys one book as a gift for someone else from Book Outlet? Right?!

shawnmooney I was really curious about this but was put off by the reviews. I love the synopsis, though, and if you end up liking it, I want to try! â¤ï¸ðŸ’œ 8y
LeahBergen @shawnmooney I thought I'd give it a whirl anyway as it was so cheap and, like you say, the synopsis sounds quirky. I'll let you know. ðŸ‘🼠8y

Hobbinol 😆I love it when I have to buy a gift! One for them and two for me... gotta make it worth the postage... or better yet-- enough to get free postage. You're really saving after all... 8y

Mehso-so

While the plot, and indeed characters were interesting, I found the narrative voice so off putting that I really struggled to read this book. I didn't connect strongly enough with any of the characters, and the plot wasn't exciting enough to make up for the characters.
