I truly cared about the characters, holding my breath when some of them were threatened and endangered. The story invoked a wide range of emotions within me – grief, joy, fear, anger, triumph, pride.
I enjoyed Ibrahim‘s smooth style of writing and will be reading more of her books. If you love a story with strong female characters, I highly recommend her books.
My first reads pick for the month:
The book starts with a train trip to reunite two women—Mattie and Lisbeth—whose lives intertwined years ago on a Virginia plantation. While enslaved, Mattie is forced to leave her son to nurse and care for Lisbeth, the master‘s daughter. Over time the two grow as close as mother and daughter. Decades later, Lisbeth is determined to see Mattie before she dies and embarks on a journey with her daughter, Sadie.
My picks this month. Both of these books look amazing. I loved the first two books in the Yellow Crocus series. What did you guys pick? #Monthofmemoirs
