This was a real page-turner! A murder investigation leads to a convent and the heartbreaking history of the Magdalene Laundries. I think fans of Louise Penny‘s Inspector Gamache will find a lot to like in DI Tom Reynolds. Definitely interested in continuing with the series. #NunLit

CBee This looks great!! 2y
kspenmoll I like your detective Gamache comparisons. The next in the series is also a complicated surprise set in Leinster House, where the Irish parliament works. (edited) 2y

This is a tricky, puzzling whodunit that kept me guessing- the solution was a total surprise for me. It includes the history of the Catholic Church‘s & the government‘s collusion in the eventually notorious Magdalene Laundries of Ireland. Our discussion will be a good one! I cannot recommend this enough to mystery lovers!

jlhammar I‘ve only just gotten started, but good so far! Work is getting in the way of my reading time 😆 2y

Favorite lounge wear when reading: right now it is cold so fleece pants/top, snuggly socks, fleece hat.
I am currently reading 4 books, 3 buddy reads & a mystery on my kindle.

This is the first of the ‘Inspector Tom Reynolds‘ series and I‘m hooked! I love how much this reminds me of Agatha Christie‘s Poirot and has Line of Duty vibes. I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of each of the officers‘ personal lives as we slowly uncover the murder. I adore the short chapters that end on a tantalising note that you can‘t help but to listen ‘just a little bit more‘.. 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👌

This is a new author for me and a new series and I will definitely be reading more even though I guessed the killer about two thirds of the way through. The plot centres around an Irish convent and the past horrors of the magdalene laundries so when I dead body is found in Dublin insp tom Reynolds +his team have to travel south to investigate as snow approaches leaving them to interview nuns who are far from sympathetic. Definitely a page turner

Set in Ireland, the central theme of the book is the laundry which was a home for unmarried mothers run by the religious establishment. It is a crime novel and some of the back story is from less enlightened times. The plot kept me guessing all the way through so it is well crafted and tightly controlled. It describes some fairly brutal and unpleasant scenes, so only read it if you can cope with a bit of gore and some upset.

Gruru I actually loved it, but it has defaulted to bailed. It‘s a PICK. 5y

My latest mystery book group pick. I‘m into it so far. It‘s about the Magdalen laundries in Ireland and their modern-day repercussions.

rretzler I purchased this some time ago but have yet to read - I‘m not sure what it‘s about any more of why I bought it 😝 6y
