I bought this book five years ago, but have never read it. Lately, it seems to whisper to me from my library. But it's 652 pages and look at that type! Still, I may crack it open soon. 📚

"It was the afternoon of my eighty-first birthday, and I was in bed with my catamite when Ali announced that the archbishop had come to see me."

#GreatFirstLines #booktober

And if that doesn't strike you immediately as the greatest opening to a novel, that's just because you haven't yet looked up the word 'catamite'.

חג שמח!

For #Recommendsday,- It's gigantic, it's brilliant, heartbreaking and so powerful. It broke my heart and blew my mind. I love it more than Clockwork Orange. It never gets the love. http://www.mhpbooks.com/ten-highlights-from-david-bowies-reading-list-set-to-dav...

GuiltyFeat It's been in my top 5 reads of all time ever since I read it 30 years ago. Couldn't tell you the plot now under torture but this is one of the reasons I read novels. 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @GuiltyFeat I remember the ending and it blew my mind so hard it's one of my lifetime top reads, too. 8y
