Before I Called You Mine
Before I Called You Mine | Nicole Deese
11 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
Lauren Bailey may be a romantic at heart, but after a decade of matchmaking schemes gone wrong, there's only one match she's committed to now--the one that will make her a mother. Lauren is a dedicated first-grade teacher in Idaho, and her love for children has led her to the path of international adoption. To satisfy her adoption agency's requirements, she gladly agreed to remain single for the foreseeable future; however, just as her long wait comes to an end, Lauren is blindsided by a complication she never saw coming: Joshua Avery. Joshua may be a substitute teacher by day, but Lauren finds his passion for creating educational technology as fascinating as his antics in the classroom. Though she does her best to downplay the undeniable connection between them, his relentless pursuit of her heart puts her commitment to stay unattached to the test and causes her once-firm conviction to waver. With an impossible decision looming, Lauren might very well find herself choosing between the two deepest desires of her heart . . . even if saying yes to one means letting go of the other.

I have simply fallen in ♥️ with this author‘s books. She writes beautiful novels of faith that are relatable, at times gut-wrenching and always heartwarming. This one is about the conviction to adopt (something Deese has experience with), and an excruciating decision that has to be made through faith by the heroine before she can move forward to realize her dreams. Deese is definitely a go-to for me now. 4.5/5⭐️ #bookspin

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I will have to check her out. Which one is your favorite? 11mo
robinb @TheAromaofBooks In looking back I just realized I‘ve only read 2 of hers. 😂 I think she has about a dozen books and a few are from series (this one is a standalone). I‘ve read the tagged one below (the first in a new series, the second is due 4/24) and have purchased All That Really Matters (first of a duology) to read next. (edited) 11mo
TheAromaofBooks I will be on the lookout for her books!!! I stacked The Words We Lost!! 11mo

My 5th book by Ms Deese in as many months! This one features Lauren who is determined to remain single and adopt a child from China. She signed paperwork for a single parent adoption, but when she falls for Joshua, she begins to question her faith and her priorities.

This was fantastic and a good perspective into the emotional roller coaster adoptive parents face. The author has personal experience with international adoption, so it‘s heartfelt.

intothehallofbooks Also! I would have never suspected-based on this cover-that most of the story takes place over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year‘s holidays. 2y
Suet624 That last comment made me smile. What‘s wrong with putting a little holly on the cover? (edited) 2y

Try to paint edges of paper back book. Not go has I thought it did. Pages ripped a little while carefully taking the pages part. I either put to much paint on or didn‘t have the book together tightly while painting. Other then that I love it and kinda nice with the rough edges. I love the this color. I think have to my whole bookshelf of books now 😂. #paintededges #newhobbie

Gah! I didn't want this book to end! God's perfect plan and timing aren't always known but when we trust in Him we can take comfort in knowing who's at the helm no matter the storm. A perfect story for those waiting to be parents and a family of their own.

What a gift Nicole Deese has given us in Before I Called You Mine! Lovable characters, check. Witty banter, check. Heart-melting hero, check. But also a glimpse at Lauren Bailey's (and, I suspect Nicole Deese's) heart, moved by God to give an orphaned child on the other side of the world hope and a home.

What follows is not just an entertaining escape, but a moving story of courage and love.

Nicole Deese has created a masterpiece where hopes and dreams dance intimately with disappointments and faith. Told in Lauren's sweet and tender first person voice, this beautiful story of international adoption explores the obstacles and rewards in adoption but also asks what the substance our faith is made of when unforseen circumstances roll our way. The author's writing is melodious, the dialogue is clever, and the characters are amazing.
