WHAT READERS ARE SAYING: "This book is Sparks meets James with a dash of Rowling. It's an alluring story, set in an enchanting place, with enticing characters. Spicy, seductive, steamy." BOOK DESCRIPTION: Elizabeth Lara, the most sought after divorce attorney in San Francisco, loses her great-aunt Mags; the woman who raised her. In a series of letters written shortly before her death, Mags reveals a shocking truth about Beth's parents. Devastated and reeling Beth buys a one-way ticket to Ireland. She rents a little cottage, determined to reclaim what she's lost. But Beth's solitary retreat into the magic wilds of Ireland is quickly interrupted by Connor Bannon. A man with light brown hair, ice blue eyes, a green Celtic Cross on his arm, and a secret. He's gorgeous and grieving, but is he just a complication on her journey? Or something more?

I decided to pause and try something from my freebies stash before I continue with the Burnished City. THE IRISH COTTAGE‘s pacing put me off at first, but I mostly like the characters and it‘s got great foreigner-in-Ireland vibes so I‘ve stuck with it and I‘m really enjoying it.

ALSO, I stopped at Michael‘s to get out of the rain and found some excellent Hallowe‘en clearance. I shall paint it black and orange.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. Set in Ireland with what seemed to be a strong female protagonist, the characters didn't develop much beyond stereotypes. If one enjoys modern day fairytales, this falls into that. I prefer more character development with a less predictable plot.

A quick read, good for vacation reading. Enjoyable story with romance in an Irish setting. A bit predictable but not entirely so. I'm giving it a "pick" mostly because it was a fun, sweet story.

I'm a sucker for quick romance novels like this - and for books set in Ireland. It was just the light read I needed this week. The pop culture references were a bit odd, but they almost provided some weird humor to it. Pretty good.
