Last review for now - I actually really enjoyed this romantic suspense, although I definitely wanted an epilogue as it felt like everything got wrapped up really fast. I had some quibbles with both the main characters - I felt like Lil was really hanging onto the bitterness for what happened when they were both 19, for pete's sake, like she never once said something like, “OMG we were literal CHILDREN so maybe I should be a little more ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) understanding“ !??!? Instead she just pouts constantly about how he broke her heart blah blah blah Cooper had this weird thing where he was an absolute jerk when he first came back, then all of a sudden is Mr. Friendly-You're-the-Love-of-My-Life-and-I'm-Not-Going-Anywhere??? Him being a total grump at first didn't really fit the rest of the story and left me feeling a little confused about his personality.

BUT despite my usual whining, ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I quite liked the setting and honestly just wanted more about all the big cats because I love them 😂 Not a perfect book, but perfectly enjoyable romantic suspense that FINALLY checked South Dakota off my list after trying to read the USA for three years!!

The refuge gave homes to bobcat and cougar, to an old, #circus tiger they called Boris, to a lioness who had once, inexplicably, been kept as a pet. There were bear and wolf, fox and leopard. #QuotsyMay19 #SouthDakota

Before this book, I'd only read two books by Nora Roberts, and while I enjoyed them well enough, didn't think they were anything special. Third time's a charm. This one is going on my list of favorites!

'Do you know how many ways love can hit you? So it makes you happy or miserable? It makes you sick in the belly or hurt in the heart. It makes you everything brighter and sharper, or blurs all the edges. It makes you feel like a king or a fool. Every way love can hit, it's hit me when it comes to you.'

You know, I‘m not a avid romance novel fan. Not when there‘s no fantastical, sci-fi subplot. But I picked up this aptly named novel on a road trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota YEARS ago and remembered being mildly surprised that I didn‘t actively hate it. It was good. Pretty good.

This is a good solid read. It's a classic young love separating to find each other after they've grown into the people they were meant to be. It's still done with the amazing warm host of characters that Nora is famous for creating. I loved the visual painted for the black hills. Nature, animals and love ❤️
