Black Power
Black Power: Politics of Liberation in America | Charles Hamilton, Kwame Ture
3 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
In 1967, this revolutionary work exposed the depths of systemic racism in this country and provided a radical political framework for reform: true and lasting social change would only be accomplished through unity among African-Americans and their independence from the preexisting order. An eloquent document of the civil rights movement that remains a work of profound social relevance 25 years after it was first published. From the Trade Paperback edition.

We are all striving to learn more, read more, and know more about so many important issues right now. I‘m going to try to make everyday for the rest of this month a #Recommendsday for me..all books by black authors or the current issue that I‘ve read & recommend.

And since no ones reading is ever done, I‘m also going to share one book that I‘ve recently purchased or is on my TBR list.

📚📚📚

Hazel2019 I love this idea! Is there a hashtag? (edited) 5y
Sweettartlaura @Hazel2019 ooh, probably 🤔. I saw this on Paul Tremblay‘s IG, and ran with it. I didn‘t catch a hashtag - wish they would have put it on the image 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
JamieArc @Hazel2019 @Sweettartlaura I‘ve seen this image other places with hash tags, so I‘m sure if you search for it, you‘ll find it. 5y
Hazel2019 @JamieArc yay! Perfect! That‘ll be helpful 😊 5y

Black Lives Matter. 🕯🕯 May this stack grow taller & the violence halt. Cannot imagine what others are going through. Thank you Litsy for being a peaceful sanctuary away from the rest of the Internet today. If anyone, and I mean anyone, needs to talk, I am a safe space. ❤️ #BlackLivesMatter

quirkyreader Maybe instead of having @Liberty #FunFriday we should have #DiversityFriday to remember those who should still be with us. 8y

BookishFeminist @quirkyreader I would 1000% love that. 8y
amywithbooks It's getting to the point where I want to delete all of my social media accounts except for this one. 😞 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @avgeyer I completely understand that and go through that phase regularly, (even more so in election years). I try to tell myself that maintaining the sane response in those arenas is a valid goal too, but as I get older, I get closer to just deciding I don't want to deal with it at all. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @avgeyer The only middle ground I've found is don't be afraid to 'unfriend', 'unfollow', report & ban the most offensive of the lot. 8y
DragonSadhana I love the idea of a #DiversityFriday! 8y

Misanthropester I had just finished Mychal Denzel Smith's book when news of Alton Sterling broke, then Falcon Heights, & now Dallas. I don't think I could've handle those events without his writing at that moment 8y
BookishFeminist @avgeyer I completely understand; I stay off Facebook entirely & only use messenger & rsvp to events on it. My other media are for professional use so I don't delete but boy it's tempting. Such a double-edged sword. V. careful about who I follow & unfollow & report often like @Riveted_Reader_Melissa 8y
BookishFeminist @DragonSadhana We are! :) it's definitely needed. Gotta keep staying positive. 8y
BookishFeminist @angrylilasian I've been the same way. Litsy has been my safe haven & I've been using my other accounts very judiciously. 8y
BookishFeminist @Owlizabeth @HardcoverHearts ❤️❤️✊🏼✊🏼 Thanks, guys & right back at you. 8y
BookishFeminist @Misanthropester I think that shall be my plan for today; read his book. Visiting old & new books for strength has been the only thing keeping me going lately, plus the Litsy community. 8y
amywithbooks @BookishFeminist @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have definitely gone the unfollow route many times, especially on Facebook. Glad to have found Litsy as a reprieve from all of the bad going on right now! 8y
WordWaller So thankful for this outlet of social media ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y
BookishFeminist @WordWaller ❤️❤️ Me too. It's been keeping me going & giving me hope. 8y

BlackandBookish @BookishFeminist Lots of titles to add to my TBR pile. 8y
BookishFeminist @BlackandBookish Lots more where this comes from too, but I couldn't make the stack fit into my camera lens 😂 Would love to hear your thoughts on them when you read some of these titles! I've yet to read some of them myself. 8y
BlackandBookish Of course! If only I had more hours in the day! So many books! 8y
