Kitty Flanagan's 488 Rules for Life
Kitty Flanagan's 488 Rules for Life: The thankless art of being correct | Kitty Flanagan
488 Rules for Life is not a self-help book, because it's not you who needs help, it's other people. Whether they're walking and texting, asphyxiating you on public transport with their noxious perfume cloud, or leaving one useless square of toilet paper on the roll, a lot of people just don't know the rules. But thanks to Kitty Flanagan's comprehensive guide to modern behaviour, our world will soon be a much better place. A place where people don't ruin the fruit salad by putting banana in it ... where your co-workers respect your olfactory system and don't reheat their fish curry in the office microwave ... where middle aged men don't have ponytails ... What started as a joke on Kitty Flanagan's popular segment on ABC TV's The Weekly, is now a quintessential reference book with the power to change society. (Or, at least, make it a bit less irritating.) What people are (Kitty Flanagan is) saying about this book: 'You're welcome everyone.' 'Thank god for me.' 'I'd rather be sad and lonely, but right.' 'There's not actually 488 rules in here but it sure feels like it'.

I picked this up as a bit of light relief from the crime books I usually read! Kitty had me in stitches and each new rule was more fun than the last. Glad I was able to score it as a Daily Deal through Audible.

Thanks @NetGalley #488RulesforLife #NetGalley. A light read by Australian comedian Kitty Flanagan of ABC TV's The Weekly. I wanted more laughs so this fell short. A book of lists to make the world a better place. It‘s interesting in small doses. Shopping: Do not call anyone older than you are Darling. Don‘t say a book/movie has a twist or they spend the whole time thinking “I wonder if this is the twist?”

Light, hilarious and I agreed with at least three quarters of these rules. A funny thing happened when reading this book. I‘d leave it on the coffee table and either myself or my husband would pick it up and read out rules to the other one.... than chuckle away before reading the next. We are not a ‘let‘s read aloud to each other‘ kind of couple. In the 20 years we‘ve been together we‘ve never done this. I don‘t know what happened but it was fun.

MrsMalaprop They are pretty funny. My sister bought this for my mum who has dementia as it‘s fun to read them aloud when we visit. My mum has a chuckle. 4y
LeeRHarry Last night I was watching an old stand up show of hers that I‘d recorded 😂 read this earlier in the year and like you a lot of her rules are my rules too 😀 4y
Joanne1 @MrsMalaprop what a lovely thing to be able to do with your mum. @LeeRHarry she‘s a very funny woman. Although as a librarian I did not agree with her no talking in the library rule. 4y

It would be remiss of me not to disclose that I am a huge fan of Kitty Flanagan and her sense of humour before reviewing this book. It is literally laugh out loud so many times, if I wasn't laughing out loud I was nodding my head along in agreement with her rules! A great fun read for anyone who needs a laugh. An engaging fun look at the rules Kitty thinks everyone should live by and why! Cannot recommend highly enough! #kittyflanagan #jublyumph
