Some days my decision to wait until there‘s enough DWJ books to buy that I can qualify for free shipping weighs more heavily than others (I already have the complete Moving Castle trilogy)

Continuing my reread of this series with this book that I don‘t remember at all (other than that I didn‘t like it as a teen). It‘s a pretty quirky story packed full of Romeo and Juliet nods, cats, and an interesting sung magic system. This hardly has anything to do with Chrestomanci compared to the books collected in the first volume. #magic #cats #MultipleWorlds

Finished the second book of the series. Even though in the beginning I was quite disappointed it was a completely different story line, I really liked the Romeo & Juliet like story, which is of course set in Italy. 😀

Another cute entry in the Chrestomanci Series. This one features magicians in Chrestomanci's world but in Italy rather than England. I liked seeing a different magic system where the users sing their spells rather than just incant or gesture. I think the best part though was the cats.

Starting my day off right with some Chrestomanci and Sierra. #CatsOfLitsy

"I shall have hysterics," declared Aunt Gina. "And no one will get any supper." ---- made me actually lol. Something so true about the feminine condition here - how the worst threat she can make is that she won't be able to cook dinner.

I am currently reading a different title by DWJ so I have her on the brain - perfect timing to dig this Chrestomanci title out for #signedsundays 😁

Children's fantasy from the '80s: more hardcore?

Riveted_Reader_Melissa In some ways yes...we weren't quite as PC and we grew up with the road runner destroying the coyote, Tom & Jerry every weekend so death was a bit more 'short term'. Then again YA today has the Hunger Games and Voldemort, so not exactly light fare there either. 8y
Lylah @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm not gonna bring political correctness into this as it's a child being enchanted into beating another child to death in the form of two puppets, which is more violent than violating any social rules. It was just so striking that I found it funny, and I felt like I was not 8y
Lylah @Riveted_Reader_Melissa supposed to feel that way about it. Also, I'd argue that shows like Tom & Jerry are around and just as violent now, but as a pretty light-hearted fantasy novel, it's just a bit jarring to see a sentence like that. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I haven't read this, maybe I need to because I didn't even realize it was puppets. 8y

German edition. Full-on front and back cover tomato & egg fight. Even the cats are in on it. 😂😂😂😂
#foreigneditions

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Best use for tomatoes! (I've been hit by tomatoes - those suckers hurt!) 8y
elkeOriginal @thegirlwiththelibrarybag And let's hope the eggs are not hard-boiled or those will do real damage! 8y

A boy, a girl, and a cat. Rival Italian spell-making families. This is no Romeo & Juliet + cat - it's an alternate world of Chrestomanci that is having some magical difficulties that Tonino's special magical talent and a cat can possibly remedy. Great fun if you like DWJ, humorous fantasy, and cats!

StephTKO What reading level is it? 8y
elkeOriginal @StephTKO It is middle grade. All the Chrestomanci series are. Young but even fun for adults! 8y
StephTKO @elkeo it sounds really fun 8y
