This is the last book I managed for #CloakAndDaggerChristmas for the "child detectives" prompt & it's an utter delight. It's a fictional reimagining of Agatha Christie as a young sleuth, with the inspiration for her creation of Hercule Poirot depicted as her childhood friend & partner in crime(-busting), Hector Perot. The 20th-century setting is beautifully-realised, the characters are lovable but not cutesy, & the mystery is solid. I enjoyed it!

A charming middle-grade mystery with characters inspired by Agatha Christie and her works.

I'd read a couple of Marthe Jocelyn's YA books with more serious themes a number of years ago and am impressed with her versatility, writing in all these different genres.

Pleasantly diverting, for the most part, though anything that smacks of clumsily stalling the story to obviously build suspense is just irritating, and I'd wager that works the same for middle grade and adult readers.
I'm not sure how much I can promote it as a break from mysteries geared towards adults, because it still features murder, macabre speculations, sad secrets and tragic decisions on the part of the perpetrator.

Painfully authentic observation. I like to think the inability to be a wit at the moment provides less chance to say something to be regretted later. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is quite charming. Aggie and Hector investigate a murder (modeled after Agatha Christie characters, including Hercule Poirot).

Children in 1902 are taken even less seriously than today. These two run circles around the adults.

This middle grade mystery was a lot of fun! Twelve year old Agatha (Aggie) meets a young Belgian refugee named Hector Perot and they become fast friends. I loved how imaginative Aggie was and how Hector was more logical. 🔍

This was a fun MG mystery starring a young Agatha-Christie-like writer/sleuth-in-training. I guessed the culprit early, but there were still some twists I enjoyed. I don‘t know yet if I will continue the series.

It wasn't on my spreadsheet 😉, but a middle grade mystery inspired by the childhood of Agatha Christie seems a nice way to start off #cloakanddaggerchristmas reading.

I found #bookspinbingo a little bit ago and quickly put together a list to try for January in my atrocious handwriting. Hopefully I‘ll actually get to at least a few! The tagged book is one I‘ve already started but decided to use as a free space in case my loan ends before I finish it.

It took me a minute to get into this - but it was a well plotted mystery and a delightful homage to Agatha Christie. I especially enjoyed her (Miss Marple inspired) Grandmother ☺️ looking forward to the sequel!
