Yep that‘s me, Pistachio and I‘m sitting here wondering why my human thinks she needs to “take a break” and get snacks before continuing on with the #20in4 readathon.

Well you can‘t win ‘em all. I am not a fan of short stories. I thought being by Reynolds I might enjoy these more. I think I would have if they‘d been interconnected. I thought they would be since it‘s a story told in ten blocks. But alas that‘s not the case. I did enjoy some of the stories but overall wasn‘t for me. #AuthorAMonth

A collection of ten short stories, about students walking home from the same school one day. These loosely connected stories offer glimpses of the students‘ lives..we learn of their secrets, the reasons for what they do (or don‘t do). The stories are reflective and inspire empathy, touching on themes like friendship, divorce, illness, bullying, fear, etc. I love the subtle ways these stories are connected, ⬇️

erzascarletbookgasm …some pull at my heart strings, a couple made me chuckle. Engaging, inventive, wonderful.

Jason Reynolds is such a creative author. This book is comprised of ten stories with each story based on a different block around a middle school as students walk home. The way he ties these stories together is masterful. I encourage you to listen to the audiobook.

I liked the writing style and the characters, and this makes me want to read more by Reynolds. It did kinda feel like a book of short stories tho (it might be, with some crossovers), which is not 100% my thing...

But it was a sweet and endearing read, with funny and sad bits. It wasn‘t in my top 5 for #2021 but it wouldn‘t feel fair to rate it a so-so.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m more partial to YA than middle grade books but everything Reynolds writes is amazing. This is our 1st book for virtual teacher book club.

Would love to use excerpts/chapters of this in the classroom if I didn‘t have time to teach the whole book. It‘s 10 interconnected stories of students on their walks home from school each day & how different each student‘s journey home is.

Love Reynolds and I‘ll read any thing he writes. This was my latest read by him and I enjoyed it but it wasn‘t as strong as some of his other books.

Amazing. I did the audiobook and felt like I was walking w/ the characters. From a teacher's perspective, you could really dive deep as it does touch upon issues like cancer, poverty, sexual identity, etc, but at the same time it's also just about an ordinary day.

Everything this man writes is gold. These stories had me laughing and had me crying. I can't wait to get back to school so I can start telling all my students about it!

LiteraryinPA Jason Reynolds can do no wrong, as far as I‘m concerned. From his books to hearing him speak at a conference down to the author blurbs, he‘s such a great part of the literary community. 5y

Book 9 of 2020 #LookBothWays by Jason Reynolds - This anthology of short stories, each set on a different block in the same neighborhood, is funny, poignant, and charming. Each story is about a young person, their relationships, and a problem they‘re dealing with. There are connections between the stories, but each works well on its own. Just read it to my students who enjoyed it immensely. 5 ⭐️
