"Vikram is not your model Indian-American teenager. Rebellious and adrift in late 1980s Wisconsin, he is resentful of his roots and has no clue what he wants from his future. When a drunken weekend turns disastrous, Vikram finds himself on a one-way ride back to India after his outraged parents decide to pack up the family and return to their homeland--permanently."--page 4 of cover.

Pickpick

This page-turning story transports readers back to the 1980s, when teenagers made mixed cassette tapes and wrote actual letters to friends. After finishing his senior year of high school, Vikram, who has been in America for eleven years, unwillingly returns to his native country. The sites and smells of India come to life as Vikram discovers his roots and grapples with what it means to belong somewhere.

Just got a notice that this is on sale today! I really enjoyed this journey of a young Indian-American man returning to Ahmedabad with his family in the 1980s. It has a stunning sense of place and is a great bridge between YA and adult fiction. Highly recommended!
