This MF picture book is a wordless Caldecott award winner. It is about a determined young girl who draws a magic door in her room and escaped to her own fantasy land. Is she safe? Having fun? You‘ll have to see for yourself ;) This book would be a great RT because it allows the students to created their own scripts based off of the images! #ucflae3414su20

bsiqueira https://www.teachingideas.co.uk/library/authors/aaron-becker This website provides great resources on ways to integrate technology, art, geography, and many other ways for the students to create their own story! 4y
bsiqueira The UDL strategy would be 7.1 “Optimize individual choice.” In order for students to come up with their own idea for a story line. Followed by ESOL #36 “Ask numerous questions which require high level thinking responses” to push the creativity of the story development. 4y
DrSpalding I like resources that help you integrate technology. Books that can be used as mentor text to write their own stories are valuable additions to your classroom library. Nice alignment. 4y

Journey is a Caldecott honor F wordless picture book by Aaron Becker. This book follows a young girl and her “journey” through a fantasy land. I believe this book would be great for a RT and for my students to create a script because there are no words in this book. Students can take turns being the narrators and the little girl main character.

Mwinship This website includes teaching ideas and resources that go along with this book including a book trailer:https://www.teachingideas.co.uk/library/books/journey
The EL strategy 2 and UDL guideline 7.1 about cooperation and individual choice align with this book and RT lesson I would like to do along with it. #UCFLAE3414F19

ChrisC The cover itself has me interested but I do like how it sounds. Can‘t wait to try it. 5y

Journey by Aaron Becker is a F book that has won a Caldecott. It shows the journey of Josephine creating a magic world with just a red marker. What‘s interesting about this hook is that it does not contain words but just beautiful images our her journey. I think this would be great for a LC because students could share the imagination with one another on what they think is happening in the story. #ucflae3414f19

cassandram A site that could be useful is https://www.storybreathing.com/journey/. It shares a video version of the book and the creation of the book from the author. It then could provide students with examples on how with just images the author creates a beautiful story. 5y
cassandram I would apply UDL 1.1 by offering ways the students could customize what is happening in the wordless story. This would be great with ESOL strategy 10 by paring and sharing with other students what they think is happening in the story. 5y
DrSpalding This story and that video scream creativity and imagination. What a wonderful mentor text for a writing activity. Nice job going straight to the authors website. 5y

"Journey" (F) by Aaron Becker is a wordless picture book that follows a young girl who draws her way into a fantasy world with her red crayon. The girl explores the kingdom, finds a beautiful pink bird and fights to free it from enemies. Without words, this is a great choice for Storytelling. Teachers get to ask students what they think is happening, teaching them to use visual context clues. #lae3414sp19

dayuso1 One UDL strategy that may be helpful is Offer Alternatives for Visual Info (1.3). Teachers can project pages onto screen using a projector in order to enlarge illustrations for the visually impaired. ELLs can further grasp this wordless story concept by drawing pictures of their own journeys. This meets the strategy "Encourage the Use of Drawings to Understand Concepts" (ESOL 30) 6y
dayuso1 The resource linked below has several extension activity suggestions to spark student imaginations. This includes asking students to tell the story from the boy's perspective, or to create captions for the pages. https://www.teachingideas.co.uk/library/books/quest 6y

Edenmonet This sounds like such a great book especially because of it having no words! Adding this to my book list! 6y
Carinna.Chin Oh my goodness!!! This book looks amazing. I love that it has no words because an ELL could flip through without the stress of reading. 6y

Journey, writ and illus by Aaron Becker, is a Caldecott award winning MF story that is completely told through pictures. This wordless book would be perfect for IR- allowing students to make up their own story as they follow along. The story is about a little girl who uses her magic crayon to take her on vast journeys to faraway places. UDL1.3-alternatives for visual info. EL#17-provide support through visuals. #UCFLAE3414F17

A wordless picture book that takes you through a journey of a lonely girl who draws herself a door to escape into a world of wonder and adventure. This modern fantasy Caldecott award wining book is the first in a trilogy of stories by Aaron Becker. This book would be a great for an AS. This book offers students visual information implementing UDL 1.3 and EL 17. #UCFLAE3414F17 https://www.tes.com/lessons/ic5Fl0gvEQipbA/journey-by-aaron-becker

Checked this out of the Elkin library. I've probably picked it up in Barnes & Noble a dozen times. It was great to finally get all the way through. There are no words, just a cool fantasy story told with pictures and it's the first book in a trilogy! My son liked it too!

LibrarianRyan Love this entire series. I wish he would do more. !!! 8y

Absolutely gorgeous. Reminded me of a cross between "Coraline" and that old cartoon Chalk Zone. Stunning illustrations -- you don't need words to be amazed by this story, and you don't need my words to convince you. 5/5 stars

A beautiful and wonderful wordless picture book. It tells the story of a little girl with her trusty red crayon. With it she can go on a wonderful adventure and see things not seen in our world, such as flying steam ships. Excellently planned and illustrated.
