Life never ending but futile at the same time. When the “have-nots” are turned into companions for the “haves” they become their playthings. Their consciousness‘s are downloaded and inserted into robots in a never ending cycle of servitude.

When this popped up while perusing the virtual shelves of scribd I knew I had to read it. A book about quarantine due to a highly contagious virus DURING a quarantine due to a highly contagious virus? How could I not?! As it turns out though the virus is little more than a passing thought in a story about robots, mortality & morality. While not a bad read it wasn't great either & in the end I was left feeling pretty unsatisfied with my experience.

Yeah for more books! There‘s some really interesting things on this list.

This one takes place in the wake of a highly contagious virus and in a world where once people die their consciousness can be uploaded to a robot, or manufactured machine, that is leased out as a “companion.” #scifi #sciencefiction #dystopia #currentlyreading
Incredibly creative concept & good debut. Companions are human consciousnesses contained in AI shells, but programming isn't perfect... Told in a series of disjointed, yet connected vignettes, I really love the world that was created. The writing is good, but sometimes feels overly choppy and disorienting due to the chapter structure. I enjoyed what I read, but wanted to know more, see more, & have a more encompassing exploration of the topic.
This seams to be the year for dystopian novels, because this is the fifth one I read published in 2020 and there are just so much more coming out. Unfortunately this one falls short.
