I Love the Bones of You
I Love the Bones of You: My Father And The Making Of Me | Christopher Eccleston
5 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
A beautiful book. Zo Ball Be it as Nicky Hutchinson in Our Friends In The North, Maurice in The A Word, or his reinvention of Doctor Who, one man, in life and death, has accompanied Christopher Eccleston every step of the way his father Ronnie. In I Love The Bones Of You, Eccleston unveils a vivid portrait of a relationship that has shaped his entire career trajectory, mirroring and defining his own highs and lows, from stage and screen triumph to breakdown, anorexia, self-doubt, and a deep belief in the basic principles of access and equality denied to generations. The actor reveals how his background in Salford, and vision of a person, like millions, denied their true potential, shaped his desire to make drama forever entwined with the marginalised, the oppressed, and the outsider. Movingly, and in scenes sadly familiar to increasing numbers, Eccleston also describes how the tightening grip of dementia on his father slowly blinded him to his sons existence, forcing a new and final chapter in their connection, and how Ronnie Ecc still walks alongside him today. Told with trademark honesty and openness, I Love The Bones Of Youis a celebration of those on whom the spotlight so rarely shines, as told by a man who found his voice in its glare. A love letter to one man, and a paean to many. My father was an ordinary man, which of course means he was extraordinary. I aim to capture him and his impact on my life and career. - Christopher Eccleston

It was a great listen but towards the end you could hear him sounding angry/ bored.
It was good to learn more about his personal life and that he's one who doesn't chase Hollywood.

Well he sure does pack a lot in this book!
He also rambles on and always mixes everything up.

This was moving and earnest and powerful. The photo on the back cover took my breath away; Chris really is the spitting image of his dad. As soon as I finished the print book, I bought the audio (narrated by Chris). Highly recommended.

This is both a memoir and a moving tribute to Ecclestone‘s #father, Ronnie.

I‘ve drawn a blank on today‘s #Movember prompt, so going with the Papa bit. In this memoir, Christopher Ecclestone discusses how important his father has been in his life.

Cinfhen Im not really familiar with this actor but the blurb sounds really good. Have you read this yet?? 5y
Tineke @Cinfhen, he is the first actor to have played the doctor in Doctor Who in the new and rebooted series. Which was a great start to a new addiction of mine. 5y
TheEllieMo @Cinfhen not yet 🤦‍♀️ It‘s on the list (so many books, so little time!). Ecclestone himself has had a long career on stage and screen, but seems to shun the limelight. 5y
Cinfhen I TOTALLY know all about #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime 5y
