I did it! It took me almost a year but I finished this excellent anthology of nature poetry. Such a fascinating exploration on the relationship between African Americans and the natural world. Highly recommended for all poetry lovers.

Throughly enjoying the depth, beauty and honesty of this anthology…here‘s a sample poem. Spring is finally here where I live and the farmers are hard at work turning our valley green. 🌾 #poetrymatters

Bkwrm7 What a lovely wreath! 4y
Cosmos_Moon_River That is a fantastic wreath! I‘ve made some bows, but have never seen a whole wreath made of ribbon like that. I really like it! 4y

“I am black man of woods
weeping
where old trees root
like men
hollering
in the wind
for lost children,
where folds of knotted skin
break off
and stab the ground, and fat
black fingers
sky-scratch a warning:

there is no hiding, there is no home
in wet woods or this soil.

Here is leaf
drops like a dead bird.
Listen, the woods weep.
My fingers grip the dirt where I fall.”

Book #26 of the year: “black nature: Four Centuries is African American Nature Poetry, edited by Camille T. Dungy

Another absolutely incredible book. I bought this after reading a poem by Camille T. Dungy in the anthology I read a few books ago. Her perspective on nature is so similar to my own and I wanted to read more. Although this only has a few poems by her, it‘s an amazing collection and her introduction was invaluable in providing context.
