Does aging have to be a point in our life where everything starts to go downhill and our bodies start to fail us with pain, disease and exhaustion? Not necessarily..this book is definitely an interesting topic of research that is finally getting some recognition. Aging has just been accepted or just a part of life by everyone but Sinclair is researching ways to age less aggressively and perhaps prolong longevity by treating it like a disease. 👍🏼

Audible BOTM - I would probably not have otherwise come across it. Reading science is my husband‘s thing so I have instructed him to read this and formulate a plan. A medical degree and natural cynicism will hopefully help!
Despite the density of science and medical facts, I gained some understanding of Sinclair‘s work and found it both fascinating and inspiring. Who wouldn‘t want to live to a healthy 150?

Aging is something we all just accept as a natural part of life. The idea here is that aging is actually a treatable disease. One that affects 90% of us. Compare that to cancer which impacts 8.7% of us, yet cancer research received 6.3 billion while aging research got less than 1/10th of that. That was an eye-opener for me as we are focused more on the symptoms but not the cause.
A thoroughly captivating (while at times a bit challenging) read!

DavidDiamond @Hooked_on_books Exactly! I never thought of it that way either. But it makes total sense! Cancer, emphysema, pneumonia, heart disease, strokes primarily strike older people. If we focus more on aging then we can decrease the frequency of these other diseases.

Amazing book all the way through!

Made me question everything about life!

And now I take an ice bath after all my HIIT exercises using the collection of ice packs I've accumulated from food deliveries. Wim Hof would be proud. 😃

The author's son denounced his line of work arguing that extending the human lifespan will actually be worse for the world b/c people will be around longer to muck it up.

Indeed, we generally tolerate old, bigoted politicians b/c we know their reign is limited.

The author is also very optimistic about the future except for one thing... A global pandemic. If we aren't prepared, a mutated flu virus could shorten the average age. Published Sept '19

The stories in the Bible aren't so far off now. Maybe we can live to 150 with ease. Maybe ovulation in women can happen in their 90s

I was so excited about resveratrol that I went to the apothecary and found a supplement that contains both resveratrol and NMN, the other compound David Sinclair touts for stimulating sirtuins (word of the day).

I took it yesterday for the first time, and I will continue taking it for a month or two and report back later.

Solving individual diseases is costly and ineffective. To truly extend our lifespan and quality of life, the disease of aging must be solved. And it's being solved right now. This is beyond cancer, beyond cell division, beyond telomeres...

If we could slow aging even just a little bit, imagine the impact it would have on all diseases associated with aging.

Imagine being 80 years old and feeling like you're 25 without wrinkles or gray hair.

A great read, it provides education and is thought provoking. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in anti-aging or improving their healthspan.
