But Not the Hippopotamus
But Not the Hippopotamus: Special 30th Anniversary Edition! | Sandra Boynton
7 posts | 23 read | 3 to read
A shy hippo makes a big impact in this anniversary edition of a Sandra Boynton classic. A hog and a frog cavort in the bog. But not the hippopotamus. A cat and two rats are trying on hats. But not the hippopotamus. The original But Not the Hippopotamus was an instant favorite among children and parents. Now this hilarious Boynton book is back in a Special 30th Anniversary Edition, complete with its silly rhymes and humorous, charming illustrations. In this simple, playful board book, a shy hippo watches as other animals engage in social activities. Finally, the other animals invite the hippo along and, after dithering a moment, she leaps into the fun...with hilarious results. The repetitive, enjoyable rhythm, cheerful mood, and well-crafted, simple rhymes will endear this story to toddlers everywhere. This anniversary edition has an enlarged trim size and metallic ink on the cover, making this Boynton classic even more special.

I was going through my daughter‘s scrapbook when she was almost one-year old, about 18 years ago and you can see her love of books, and especially Boynton‘s books, started the moment we brought her home from the hospital.

Now I‘m reading her perfect essays in college (she keeps scoring 100 and above thanks to her beautiful writing style and hard work). Does reading early help? Heck yea!

Btw, the tagged book is such a good lesson in empathy.

Texreader @Leftcoastzen @Graywacke @GingerAntics @Catsandbooks @julieclair @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Lcsmcat Thanks y‘all for being so sweet, and for the Boynton love. She is a blessing for parents! I loved spending Saturday immersed in scrapbooking some pages long left undone in her scrapbook. Reliving these memories is so precious 3y

Mehso-so

Sandra Boynton is supposed to be so funny and enjoyable for the kiddos. She's popular among parents as well. I'm not quite as impressed, however... I don't dislike her books, I just don't go rushing to read them. Julian is a bit "meh" about them too. I guess that's just us!

I have, of course, been given many books for the baby, and I've been reading him a few (not that he cares yet). This one is definitely my favorite so far. Adorable illustrations enhance the interesting story, which is told using clever rhymes and an unexpected structure. When I have baby gifts to give, this is going on the list. #raisingreaders

4⭐️ Boynton has a way with words and illustrations. It is a fun sing song rhyme that works in whatever format it is in.

Lcsmcat @AWahle we didn‘t have Snoozers but they loved this one so much I STILL have it memorized! They also loved Blue Hat, Green Hat and Barnyard Dance. My oldest has a kid of his own now, and the tradition continues. 7y
tournevis I read that one to my son, in French, when he was about three, and it was a complete failure. I don't know why because the translation was ok. 7y

#septphotochallenge #day11 #shadesofblue Okay, so this one is a little on the green side of teal, but I wanted to include it because I love it so much. 😁 It was my favorite when I was a toddler, and my firstborn's favorite when he was a toddler. Also, #Iloveteal
