pick#2 in the series. Before there were social and charitable services in place, there were so many orphans, esp if the mother died - often the dad would abandon his kids. As time passed, older orphans looked out for the younger ones-that describes this book. Twin girls are placed in a home that neglects and abuses not only them, but several other kids too☹️
