“Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz“ An example of onomatopoeia.
Something cool about this book is that there is a ~bug glossary~ that includes different real life pictures of bugs and a description about each of them.

“Nasty Bugs“ by Lee Bennett Hopkins, 2012. Poetry book. I'm definitely a fan of this poetry book. The purpose of the book is to teach kids about bugs in a fresh fun way. The poems rhyme and use onomatopoeia.
I enjoyed this book. I like the subjects of the poems, bugs that come out at night. Children are not only gaining knowledge and understanding of rhythm but also about the subject of bugs that we usually do not see. It is very cute and well thought out.
The poems have a good rhythm to them, but also have great illustrations so readers are able to see the characteristics of some of these bugs. This book also brings these bugs into a good light.
“I‘m not ruthless, viscous, nor malicious, it‘s just that I find you absolutely deeeelicious.”
This is a book full of poems of all sorts of bugs. There wasn‘t as much rhyming as there is in other poems books I read this semester. It‘s creative but also educational. I think students would be intrigued.
Based on my experience with children, especially at the CDC, I would definitely have this book in my classroom. bugs interest young learners, and it‘s a good thing to learn about! the poems are educational.
“I am nocturnal- your day is my night.
thus, I wait until you are tucked in tight
before I indulge in a morning snack.
Yet you call my simple meal an attack!
Such a nasty fuss! So much gripe and whine.
Exterminator?!? All I do is dine.
I'm not ruthless, vicious, nor malicious-
it's just that I find you
absolutely
deeee licious.“
I would use this book in my classroom because it is a fun way to strike up conversation and it might be of interest to students, which then I can incorporate into my lesson plans.
Nasty Bugs written by Lee Bennett Hopkins. This book is full of poems about different types of bugs. The material is very informative but put together in a way that is easy for children to comprehend. The poem's rhymes sounded contrived simply because the information is so elite that it was probably hard to find rhyming words.
A high interest in the classroom is bugs, I think children would adore this book. Each poem has an illustration of the bug being portrayed, super cute!!
Nasty Bugs by Lee Bennett Hopkins published in 2012 is a very informative book about bugs. Adorable and brightly illustrated.
I GET THE CHILLS FROM THIS PICTURE. The worlds most creepiest, detailed read!
Published in 2012, this book while it has a same general underlying theme, has many poetic variations to it! From the ABAB pattern to ABCA, mixed in with the creepy crawlers, it will make for a very enjoyable read for the children!
