Exposure: Poisoned Water, Corporate Greed, and One Lawyer's Twenty-Year Battle against DuPont | Robert Bilott
5 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
An intimate account of one of the most appalling environmental crimes in modern historyRob Bilott is a hero of our time. Nathaniel Rich, author of Losing Earth The story that inspired the major motion picture Dark Waters, starring Mark Ruffalo as Robert Bilott. In 1988, Rob Bilott began a legal battle against DuPont that would consume the next twenty years of his life, uncovering the worst case of environmental contamination in modern history and a corporate cover-up that put the health of hundreds of thousands of people at risk. Representing a single farmer who was convinced the creek on his property had been poisoned by runoff from a nearby DuPont landfill, Rob ultimately discovers the truth about PFASunregulated, toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing of Teflon and a host of other household goods. DuPonts own scientists had issued internal warnings for years about the harmful effects of PFAS on human health, but the company continued to allow these chemicals to leach into public drinking water. Until Rob forced them to face the consequences. Exposure is an unforgettable David and Goliath-style legal drama about malice and manipulation, the failings of environmental regulation, and one lawyers quest to expose the truth about this previously unknownand still unregulatedchemical that presents one of the greatest human health crises of the 21st century.

It‘s an almost unbelievable true story about one man‘s fight with DuPont about water pollution with forever chemicals. I read this book several weeks ago, but Biden‘s EPA just now set limits of known carcinogens PFOAs in public drinking water. There‘s a great documentary based on this book as well as a movie. 💦

I knew nothing about Dupont or Teflon or that there was a book before I saw this movie. It is easier to twine a rug while watching a movie.

Crazeedi You've been on my mind, are you and your family all ok? 5y
Princess-Kingofkings @Crazeedi yes, no major bumps ~ day by day, little bit by bit 5y

The story of the lawyer who spent 20 years building a case against DuPont for its use of PFOA, a hazardous chemical used in Teflon, and how the company tried to cover up what it knew about the health effects on humans. It‘s disgusting how cozy the relationship is between giant chemical companies and the EPA. Why should it have to take litigation for companies—and our government— to do the right thing?

Scochrane26 Very frustrating. 5y
Sharpeipup Is that the book the “Dark Waters” movie is based on? 5y
Amiable @Sharpeipup Yes! I haven‘t seen the movie, though. 5y
